How likely is it that I''ll screw up my diamond in this setting?

Ok - I am REALLY torn between the Bev K and the WF setting. For now I'm curious about the Bev K because Pearlman's does finance and I'd have to get the WF customized so that I could have a band sit flush. Anyways, I've been googling trying to find additional pictures of the Bev K that I'm considering and am a little concerned that I'm going to destroy my diamond because of how the setting is. The diamond sits higher than the halo - I'm not a huge clutz, but I do tend to slam my rings on say, car windows and countertops. I'll probally end up taking the ring off while working (we're farmers .. woohoo!) but while running our retail business I'd like to wear it .. and while using the register, it'll probally get banged on things a bit.

SO .. exactly how durable are diamonds and should I consider another setting?! I can't say for certain if I'd bang it any more than the next girl, but I do know it'll happen. Can anyone with a setting like this offer any advice?

Also, while I'm showing pictures .. does this setting strike you as bulky or seem to be too round or high?!

Thanks!

Here's a good picture that shows how the diamond sits .. and a link for reference on the too bulky/round question.

It''s very pretty!! =) Maybe you could just get what you want and buy insurance?

You might be able to get the setter to put the stone down in the halo more. My stone''s girdle is pretty close to being set flush with the halo, and it is a very similar configuration of halo/prongs, just set a smidge lower than the topazery pic.

I have found it a very protective setting. I am a bit hard on stuff, and though I''ve whacked it hard enough to ding the halo ever so slightly, so far it''s been great at protecting the stone from my klutziness. (Better than most anything else except maybe a bezel halo.)

I''d just get the one you like best and insure it well.

Oh, and I work retail & run a cash register at work too. So far I haven''t banged it on the register ever. Usually door frames are the big thing I run into with my hand

Can you go into a store that carries a similar setting and try one on? Get a feel for how it sits on your hand, how you may or may not have to adjust movements for it. I know that I am a super klutz so I went for a setting that sat low and with no pave. I figured that I''d be knocking my hands on everything. To be honest, I''ve been wearing my ring for a year and I can only remember knocking it hard twice so far. I thought I''d be knocking it around like that every single day.

I''m not sure, but I have to say it''s really pretty! :-D It actually looks pretty safe in there, you have the halo for a smidgen of protection.

Diamonds are durable, but not as durable as people think. My mother is very tough on jewelry and she isn't a person who does a lot of things with her hands (except talk!!). However, she clipped three huge chips out of her diamond. If you're going to be the type of person banging it into everything, I would get a setting that keeps the girdle flush with the sides of the halo, or bezel it somehow. Also keep it in platinum since the prongs will be more durable. Gold prongs need to be replaced every so many years, especially if your rough on your jewelry. 18K white gold isn't very durable.

I love that setting. Beverly K does customize. Would bezeling your stone in that setting be an option for you? I''m sure they''d be willing to do it if it''s possible.
