This is a question only fellow PSers can answer and there doesn't seem to be anything similar with a search.

How long have you loved diamonds? Has it been since you were a child, when you got engaged or later on? What's your story? Mine is that I have been fascinated since I was a young child, but pickin's were slim in England. Diamonds were the domain of Princesses in fairy stories, the very rich, movie stars, the Royal family - only accessible to me in my dreams and imagination. When I was a new bride, we got to know a lady in her early forties who wore a huge 3 carat honker. It was then that the cogs in my brain began to painfully creak that maybe a larger diamond wasn't out of the realms of possibility at all, I didn't see anything movie starrish, royal or hugely wealthy about this lady. I eventually plucked up the courage to ask if it was real. It was. It was in a simple Tiffany solitaire and I was mesmerized at how proudly this diamond sat on her finger, I couldn't stop looking!

Was there any good reason then that maybe one day if I worked hard enough, wanted badly enough, finances and Hubby permitting that I couldn't have one too? It seems there wasn't! That was it for me and the madness has gone on ever since and I think it always will! I am so lucky to have a supportive hubby, very necessary for this madness who understands the joy diamonds give me, as many of us lucky ladies know!

Anyone want to add? Guys are more than welcome too!

hahaha good topic..
it made me think of when I was younger.

quick story- I remember when I was like 16 or so, and my sister was 23? and we were at a jewelry store with my mom. They were looking at engagement rings, and I remember saying this (thank god I am not quoted on a regular basis
2.gif
)"I don''t want a large diamond for my engagement ring... it just isn''t me, I wouldn''t want to wear that!!"*NOTE-where I live, a large stone is about .5-1 carat, most have .10-.33*
I also said I would turn down a large diamond.
23.gif
and trade it for a smaller simple-er style..
hahaha.
HAHAHA.

anyways,I''ve loved the look of diamonds forever, I love the look of eternity bands a lot...mmmm.
but got addicted to saving my penies for the past couple years ;) hehe.

You are hilarious Sparkly!!! It is a good job you haven''t been quoted on that - it doesn''t leave much room to accomodate the dreaded shrinkage syndrome
32.gif
14.gif
Are you addicted to saving your pennies for more blingage?
31.gif

hahaah
I can''t imagine..
WELL bf was no where in the picture at that time, and never even heard this story (maybe we''ll keep it that way
2.gif
)

Shrinkage syndrome will be harder to reach where I live, since "large" is 1 carat here, hehe,
so at least, I don''t have these HUGE rocks in my face all the time (I can''t imagine living in NYC for instance.. I''d want them ALL!) eheh.

all my penies DO go towards new rings... before school started again this year I got myself a nice wide diamond band --->wide diamond band to "motivate" myself to study hehehe
20.gif
(whatever excuse for new diamonds
9.gif
)

Have an excuse if you want to - where diamonds are concerned I don''t think a girl needs one - hee hee!!!!
31.gif
Being a girl is ALWAYS enough!
36.gif

ahhh i always feel like i have to justify everything.
bf is always like "do you REALLY need that"
and with excuses, it works ;)
of course I would be willing to say that the ring is my long lost grandmothers(bought brand new;) ahaha) if it worked.

whatever gets me my diamonds! :)

I have loved diamonds (any sparkly gemstone really) ever since I was young. I remember staring at my mother''s antique diamond ring and I still ask to try it on. Her fingers are larger than mine so it doesn''t really fit. I usually get bored with trying to keep it on and give it back but it is so beautiful. I think she is the inspiration for my Tacori, antique looking setting. I love modern, sleek rings too but the antique ones just remind me of my mom, home, and are comforting.

I never was super interested in diamonds, I mean sure I thought when I was younger it'd be fab to have that diamond ring someday...but it wasn't until I met my best girlfriend who has tons of family diamonds and jewelry that I really got the BUG. So about 7 years ago. Oh and it really came out when I was first dating Greg ~6 years ago, that he said 'If I bought you diamond earrings, would you wear them?'...WOULD I?? After that the lid was off Pandora's box and it's been a steady obsessive decline ever since.
31.gif

Since I was in the crib, just kidding. I have been obsessed with diamonds and jewelry since I was little. I would take the Tiffany catalogs and Town and Country magazines and stare at all the pretty pics for hours. It drove my mother nuts. But it has been a passion of mine since I can remember.

I was never really into diamonds until my bf bought me my first diamond! That was 3 years ago. Boy, was that a mistake. I don''t think he knew what he was getting himself into. Now I want more more more!
31.gif

One of my mother''s only credit cards was for a local jewelry store.
31.gif

Yup, been diamond and any type of bling obsessed for years. When I was a teenager, I always had a ring on layaway there. I spent most of my paychecks from the time I was 13 at Everett''s jewelry store. I''m hopeless.

VERY FUN QUESTION!!!
36.gif

I have ALWAYS loved diamonds! And it's funny because it certainly isn't because I grew up around them. My mother couldn't care less about diamonds (she loves big, gaudy costume jewelry) and neither could my sisters. (One sister has a < .5 size solitaire that I haven't seen her wear in YEARS, and the other sister has a gorgeous 2 carat oval, but as far as "things" goes, she really isn't into it at all! (Can you imagine?!!!) It was a gift from her husband so she cherishes it, of course, but she would be happy with a cigar band!

But I digress!
2.gif
I have always noticed and admired diamonds, and from very early on I was keenly aware that some were far more beautiful than others, although of course I didn't really understand WHY at that time. When we got married (as teenagers right out of high school!
23.gif
) we couldn't afford much, and I would rather have "gone without" a diamond than get some eensy weensy little chip of a thing. (And at that point in my life I considered .75 - 1 carat H*U*G*E !) So that's what I did, I got married with a simple tri-color gold band and dreamed of the day I would have my own diamond.

It took A LOT of years, but it was SO worth the wait!!! And if someone would have told me "way back when" that someday I would own a gorgeous 2.36 I think I would have never believed it!!!
1.gif

I can''t remember ever not loving diamonds, and I can still remember the diamond wedding sets that each of my mom''s friends had from when I was tiny! I haven''t seen some of them in 15 years and I''d probably recognize their rings before them. That''s sad!

Great question! Fun to read everyone''s responses.

I was really never into diamonds until I found this site 3.5 yrs. ago when I was searching google. It was so interesting to read and fun to look at everyone''s pictures. Now, one pendant, ACA studs and a cushion cut engagement ring (which I haven''t received yet and am anxiously awaiting) later... I''m thinking about a tennis bracelet! Ahhhh... will it ever end?! Each time I think "ok, this is the last time" and then I find something else to lust after!
3.gif

I always admired my mom''s and grandmother''s engagement rings and had fun with jewelry, but the obsession didn''t really start until my father decided to be funny and mailed me a jewelry catalog at college - DH and I had been dating for 3 years at the time, and I guess Dad wanted to tell us he approved!
2.gif
It was my sophomore year and what with the free internet at college and a fellow diamond-obsessed girl friend, I spent tons of time playing with diamond sizes, shapes, sidestones, etc on bluenile and adiamondisforever.com (and graduated in exactly 4 years to boot!). Then I was bit by the marriage bug, found the LIW on here and I''ve been totally enamored and hooked since!

Great replies everyone, keep ''em coming!

I think it would be interesting to see if we all have the same diamond addictive gene! I peek shamelessly at other people''s diamonds and it is sad to say that here nearly all diamonds you see are either frozen spit or one big bang with a massive table and not much else, or bungalow diamonds - not much up top and all bottoms, very deeply cut, after a British single storey residence! I think as Kayleigh said it IS a passion and it is so fantastic to finally find your heart''s desire like Lynn B and have far more of fab diamond than you ever dreamed of! Especially when old myths have been debunked such as colour, with Mara and Lynn''s J''s what''s not to like?????

I was never really interested in diamonds until I was given a beautiful diamond engagement ring in 1998. It was a 1.65ct solitaire diamond and I had never witnessed such sparkle in an diamond. It had me hooked, watching it in all different lighting situations. It was then that I realised why diamonds are a girl''s best friend - it certainly brought me a lot of enjoyment. The engagement didn''t work out, but it did make me realise that if I ever got engaged again, then I really wanted a fab diamond. I was lucky enough to get one in July and it''s gorgeous. I won''t be without a diamond ever again.

I guess I was about 25 or so when I became facisnated with them. That was about 5 years ago. I was actually already married (on the verge of a divorce

) But I all of a sudden really wanted one... and A BIG ONE!!!

Before that... I didn''t care...

Gosh, honestly I think I came out of the womb loving diamonds and jewelry. I''m a girlie-girl when it comes to all the traditional "girl items": clothes, shoes, makeup, perfume, etc. - so I suppose it goes without saying that I would love diamonds!! My mom, back when my parents were married, wore just under a 1 carat marquise in a gold band and I thought it was so beautiful! I used to ask to wear it all the time, and she''d usually let me - provided I stayed within her sights!! I used to love when she would go into a jewelry store to have it cleaned because I would walk from case to case and peer in and stare at all the pretty colored stones and diamonds and things. I think by age 9, I knew the name of every colored stone!! Ok maybe not all, but most! So yes, my love affair with diamonds goes waaaaaaay back. Funny enough, my first diamond is the one I have now - my wedding ring and engagement ring! BUT - because of my passion for bling, I now work in the jewelry industry, so believe me: THERE WILL BE MORE DIAMONDS FOR ME!!!! and soon...........

I have loved diamonds and jewely in general since I was little. I used to stare at my mom''s e-ring with wonder at the beauty of it! I think it was around .5 round, she eventually lost the entire ring. (I swear it must be in the house somewhere but it never showed up). She also had an antique amethyst emerald cut ring from her grandmother which she lost in the backyard and believe it or not my father found it in the grass! Unfortunately she lost it again and it''s never been seen since.
8.gif
I remember for my graduation all I wanted was an emerald ring which my parents did get me and I wore every day for 10 years! Still have it and wear it occassionally. I was probably the most excited person in high school to get my class ring (loving jewelry as I did, even though the center stone was sim). Imagine my shock when my ring came in to my exact specifications except it was a man''s size ring!!! The disappointment of having to wait another 3 weeks while everyone else wore their class rings drove me nuts!! So I''ve loved jewelry for a long, long time but never cared as much about shoes, purses, makeup, etc... This is really the only girly thing I obsess over.

Honestly, I was never really interested in diamonds until last year when I got engaged...
I didn''t even know what the 4 Cs were! My then BF used to buy me jewelry with small diamonds from Tiffany''s and I didn''t appreciate them anymore than I would their silver collection. (How ungratefully retarded was I?)

I think being engaged opened my eyes up to them

i have always loved all things sparklie and girlie (hence why I am almost 30 and still shop at Claire''s boutique) but never really wanted diamonds until ALL my friends started getting engaged, and I couldnt even get a date! Suddenly having a "diamond" was what i obsessed about, because its what it stood for (having a man to love me!) that i wanted.

however, stalking all my friends rings made me realize how SPARKLY diamonds really are and how perfect of a thing to want and when you love sparkle!

I bought myself a diamond/blue topz ring off ebay and became mesmerized by the fire of those tiny diamonds. and so the story began..:}

I can really relate to PunchnPie's quote here: "Suddenly having a "diamond" was what i obsessed about, because its what it stood for (having a man to love me!) that i wanted." That's what prompted the diamond obsession, rather by accident.

This came when I was around 18 and had my first (only, really) serious boyfriend. Everyone my age was getting some kind of ring from their boyfriends and I wanted one too for the reason expressed above. But it was far from marriage-time so I was looking for a nice ruby ring in white gold. There were none at the mall so I ended up on Ebay searching for rings, the first of course which showed up being diamond. I came across a 3-stone EC and it was love at first sight.

Shortly after we purchased my ruby ring I was buying myself my first diamond ring, a .40 center antique illlusion-set ring.
