I will have a late lunch reception starting at 3pm. just wondering how long everyone''s will last?

4 to 5 hours is the norm.

Mine will be 4 hours

Our reception started at 7:20pm and ended at 11:30, so 4 hours. We had a cocktail reception immediately following the ceremony and then a four course meal (no dancing, no cake cutting etc.).

Ours will start around 7:30 p.m. and end around 10:30 p.m.

We had a Chinese banquet and it lasted about 4 hours.

3 hrs

It''s going to last from the end of the ceremony (I''m guessing around 5:30 or so) to 11:00

Sorry to hijack your post-just really curious-do you guys all go out after 11 then or does everyone go home? In Ireland, the receptions tend to go on till about 4-5am the next morning. I didnt know that they finished up earlier in the states

Ours was long....I think the reception started at 7ish. We left around 11ish but I think the DJ stayed until midnight.

bee* our friends all partied at a local bar and hotel after the reception. DH and I stayed at a different hotel and we were so tired. I guess you have more engery when it is NOT your own wedding!

Ours will be about 6 hours, but that''s only because we''re having a lunch reception (3hrs) and then have hired a cable car for everyone to tour SF (another 3). So total it''s 6.

The day time reception will be 4 hours. We are then having a cultural afterparty that will be 7 hours later that night.

Thanks for the reply! I never knew that there was such a difference. Over here, the bride and groom will stay up until 4 themselves too-in fact they''re usually the last to bed. As a guest, even I find it hard to have the stamina to stay up that late as the ceremony starts at the latest at 2pm over here so its a long long day!

Our ceremony didn''t start until 5:30 pm. A few of DH''s friends got a head start by going to a brewery tour before the ceremony. The lure of free beer was just TOO much for them to pass up

I never could have kept up with them. I was SOOOO tired at the end. Poor DH ordered room service and watched TV alone in our suite while I passed out. If we had stayed in the same hotel I am sure we would have joined in the after party so it was probably best we didn''t.

I have been to a lot of weddings where there were fantastic after-parties. I want my reception to last all night, but there is a noise ordinance where I live, and music has to stop at 11:00. I would want to go out after, but my fiance and I have to be at the airport at 7 am the next morning to head off.

I know a lot of people end up in similar situations where they only have the venue for a set amount of time, etc.

Mine will be:

3.00pm - Ceremony
3.45pm - Cocktails and canapes - though I''m thinking along an English Cream Tea theme
6.00pm - Reception and Speeches
8.30pm - Dancing etc
9.30pm - Cake
11.30pm - Winding up time/bouquet throwing etc
12.00pm - Finish

I think it''s about what I will be able to cope with. I know loads of people in the UK who have an 11.30am ceremony and the party is still going at 2.00am - I would be dead if I did that. Also I am hoping it will be a bit cooler after 3.00pm in July
