How many diamonds would I need?

Seeing that you all are so knowledgeable and always find these little tools to figure these types of things out I wanted to see if anyone can help me.

I have a 9.5x7.5 oval sapphire that I want to halo, how many 3.6x2.7 oval diamonds would I need to make a halo?

I saw a parcel of ovals for sale on loupetroop and there are only 8 so I guess I won't be doing that as I would be 2 short to make it look right.

Depends what you do with the metal inbetween?
I bet it would look fabulous (bead set ?) in a scallop type surround, but not if what you are looking for is prong set. Maybe then alternating with rounds? They wouldn’t need to be that big at all.

What center stone do you have that you are considering this for?

Your sapphire is beautiful!

Putting much faith in @MWM ‘s CAD-
I revise my earlier statement and do think those 8 stone’s measurements very well could result in a beautiful halo done with prongs!
The oval shape of your stone is different- but I don’t think that’d matter.
