Well, I''m back on the flower track and trying to pick a site as well as a particular rose.

How many roses would you say should be in the various bouquets? I''ve heard anywhere from 15-20 to 35-40. I can''t imagine the latter since the roses I like are the big, open ones. The sort of bouquet I like is very simple, only roses and tied w/ribbon. D

Maybe around 20 for mine and 15 for the bm''s? Is that too few?

Also, do the mom''s get bouquets too? About 10 for them?

What do you guys think? What did you have/are you having?

Other than me, bm''s, mother''s, bout''s for the guys, am I missing anyone?

Thanks!

My BMs and I are having hand-tied rose bouquets also. Mine is going to have about 3 dozen, theirs will have 18 i think. It''s been a while since we went to the florist though so I could be a bit off.

I think it really all depends on how big of a bouquet you want.

Moms can have bouquets, pin on corsages, wrist corsages or even a single flower. It''s really all about what kind of a look you want and what they feel comfortable with.

If you''re having any flower girls, don''t forget their petals and also if you''re having any special helpers (readers, program passers, etc) you might want to get them corsages/bouts as well.

Robbie, thanks so much for your response! If your numbers are accurate, I''m way off and will need extra flowers. Which is ok b/c I think I''m ordering the pack w/the 200 or 250 roses vs. 125. I thought I might be able to get away w/the 125 but it doesn''t look like it. Plus, I''ll use the extra''s for the flower girl and to line the aisle, if possible.

Hmmm, as for the mom''s, I''m not sure. I''m not a big fan of the wrist corsage and my mom mentioned yesterday that some people don''t like pinning something on their dress so I suppose a bouquet will be the choice.

Good point about the helpers. We''re just having our nieces/nephews act as ushers so, you''re right, it would be nice to give them something too. Boy will I be busy making all these flower pieces!

Why don''t you ask the mom''s what they prefer. They may prefer pinning on a corsage as they may not want to carry a bouquet around (could get in the way with lots of greeting people). On the other hand, they may not want to pin one, so you''re probably best just asking.

I was going to buy both mothers a victorian silver posy holder - it''s like a small brooch that you put fresh flowers in. I thought it would be nicer than pinning on flowers and also a memento for them to keep.

First of course it depends on how big you want it to be. Then it depends on how open you will let your roses get. When I went to JoAnns to test out how big I might actually like my bouquet, I found that 11 full roses was perfect for me. It was about 10" wiide (fiance acutally measured for me with the measuring tape he carries around lol). Had I not done this, I would have based an order on the practice bouquet I made using 12 pink roses (i.e. I would have needed at least 20 to make it 10"). I guess those pink roses were pretty teeney.

In regard to corsages for moms, we are tying 3 roses together, first with floral tape, then with silver ribbon. Done. It''ll take 1 minute and cost us minimal money. We''d love to get corsages made, and they are "only" about $20per, but we actually like the idea of a mini bouquet better and we certainly can handle that on our own :) No sense in paying for that in my opinion.

Glad to hear your''e back on the flower track :) I understand the ebb and flow, believe me!!

Laine, I might just ask, that''s a good idea, thanks!

Pandora, that sounds really nice. Do you have any pictures of that?

So Happy, thanks for posting! I forgot to look at their flowers when I went to JoAnn''s. I''ll have to do that next time I''m there. I still haven''t bought flowers to do a testing yet but I''m hoping to do that early June.
So will the mom''s have your corsage pinned on or carry it? You''re right, definitely sounds easy enough to do. You decided to have a florist do your bouquets, right? I''m still trying to pick a site to order from. It''s hard to choose! I had a dream about using some florist the other day though so I think that''s a sign that I need to get this figured out already!
Have you done anymore samples lately?

Dixie,

The number of flowers that you want to use is dependant on your size. If you are a petite person you don''t want a massive bouquet. Also keep in mind that the flowers will be much heavier than you expect them to be and you will be nervous/ excited and possibly a little shaky so keep that in mind.

:) Rebecca

Thanks Sparkel. I know I don''t want too many flowers and a fairly small bouquet but it sure is hard to determine w/o seeing the flowers. I''m definitely hoping to buy some and do some test bouq.''s before the big day.

You can also go to your local supermarket''s florist area and hold several of thier single roses together to get an idea. This won''t ease your mind on which particular rose will look best with how many (unless you get lucky and they carry a rose variety you fall in love with) but it will give you a ballpark

When you have no idea, a ballpark is sooooooo nice

From that thread I linked to you a while back, it seemed that pretty much all the roses that woman bought opened up really well. So I''m guessing any rose you choose will be under your control if you get it delivered soon enough.

Do you have a couple places in mind that you are deciding between for ordering?

Hi dixie! Regarding pinning corsages onto the mom''s dresses...

I just met with my florist today and she says that they have started to use magnets instead of pins to attack the corsages to the mothers. She didn''t have one to show me, but I imagine having a small and strong magnet attached to the corsage, and then using another magnet on the other side of the shirt. I thought is sounded like a really cool idea, it shouldn''t wreck or rip the dress. Good luck deciding what to do!

I am considering www.fityflowers.com and www.bridesnblooms.com. When you call them, they have a much bigger selection that what the websites say. Fifty flowers has a better variety but more expensive. Brides n blooms has only one that I like (the Hot Princess) but is considerably cheaper.
I''m waiting to see if I can get Fifty flowers to send me some samples b/c they also have the Hot Princess. If I like that one the best, I''ll just go w/Brides n Blooms. If I really, really like one of the others, then go w/Fifty Flowers.

I''m waiting on emails back from both right now. Good idea about going to the grocery store and holding their flowers! They just always seem to carry the small, closed varieties but certainly will give me an idea. I am almost positive I will want between 10-20 but who knows..

My dil told me she got her flowers at Wal-mart. They special ordered them several months before hand to be ready a few days before the wedding. She said the flowers were a whole lot cheaper and she also got a discount because of the quantity she ordered.
