We basically met through Match.com, but we lived in the same town and went to the same college (both in the Greek system too!). We just needed the online personals to "reconnect us" and the rest is history.

not me - but my dad met his new wife through the internet.

that was more than a couple of years ago so it was still sort of taboo. he he I think they lied to my grandmother about how they met....

me!....through match.com...took it slow at the beginning (you know, making sure he wasn''t a psycho

)....but I really melted from the day I met him....

!. My mom convinced me to go online and give it a try...I never thought I would find anything, but I gave it a try. I always ask myself what such a hunk, loving, caring sweet guy was doing on the internet....but hey, I was there too!

Me too.

We met through Yahoo in May 04, although if I remember correctly, he just sent me a message one day when I was online. It was strange b/c I wouldn''t normally respond to someone that way. We "spoke" awhile that night, then he emailed me his info. after. We talked for awhile via email and then eventually, spoke on the phone and later met in person in July. I feel like we''ve been together ever since, even though we officially were seeing just each other in October. It''s been almost 2 years and going so well. Yay!

He hates it when I say we met because of Match.com. But it's true! My criteria didn't extend to men under 30 so I never saw him, but my best friend did! They went out a couple of times and became friends, so she promptly handed him over.

LOL. And I was next on his list of women to email, so... But I'm glad we met the way we did, because I didn't have any preconcieved notions of possible romance and was very relaxed and myself. Really ought to have tried that part out a little earlier in life!

My FI & I met through Match.com. I got lucky pretty early as he was one of only 3 people I met on the site (FI had been on Match for about a year). We emailed for about a week, then decided to get together for the traditional hour-long drinks date.

Our second date lasted for nearly 8 hours...and we were pretty much inseparable from then on.

ME!

We met on Match.com in November ''02 and only chatted via email for about 2 weeks before we met in person. The minute he smiled at me I was gone. It''s been totally fabulous and we''re both a little freaked out by all the weird stuff we have in common that wasn''t part of the matching process. He didn''t tell his family about it right away though it eventually came out. My mom thought it was great because "You buy everything else online... why not a boyfriend?" He''s a totally shy guy so not somebody I would have met in a bar, plus he lived 40 miles away from me. But it''s been totally worth it. Best $20 I ever spent... he was my first online date!

Well, not me, kind of... Um, I dated my boyfriend about 9 years ago, and then we broke up because I was 17, and stupid. Well, I realized about 5 years later that I had made a mistake and searched for him everywhere, and finally found him 2 and a half years ago on Friendster.com. It''s funny, because he had actually coached my boss'' daughter. He was SO close and still not able to be found! He loves to tell people I was his stalker.

My brother met his FI online, but they were doing some sort of online gaming thing.

He''s like a wizard to her Valkryie or something.

He met her in person, and moved to Aus. last November to marry her this April.

Gosh we sound like a walking advertisement for match.com... us too!

We began dating in July of ''04 and after our first date we took our profiles off and have been dating each other since then. Actually, after only a month he told me he loved me, then we moved in together at 6 months. So, I''ve been patiently waiting to move to engagement 1 year plus after our move in date! Darn those boys wanting to get their ducks in a row with school, work, and a possible move out of state for us. YAY Match.com!

Nate and I first found each other through Yahoo personals back in August 2001 (before they started charging). We began chatting as we both went to the same college. When we were sharing photos of ourselves, he looked at one of my pictures and was like "OMG, I know that girl in the photo with you, how do you know her?" Long story short, the "girl" was my best friend from high school through college. We had a falling out after our freshman year of college (rooming together was SO not a good idea) and Nate actually attended a party at her apartment that summer. As a result, he knew my best friend, a number of my hometown friends that were attending the same college, and I knew a number of his friends and even two of his roommates. Such a small world!!

We just let people assume that we met at college though ;)

Before that I met my first ever boyfriend via AOL in 1997.
My 3rd boyfriend via HotorNot in April 2001.
My 4th boyfriend via a webcam website in June 2001.
And finally Nate via Yahoo personals in Aug 2001.

As soon as we got the Internet in 1996, I was online looking for boys. I was raised in a small town (~5700 people at the time) thereby creating a very small (and small minded) dating pool. The Internet gave me the option of meeting guys I''d never normally come in contact with. Of course I have some horror dating stories (a guy or two psuedo stalked me, another embarassed the heck out of me at a McDonalds, another waited until I dropped him off to call me all sorts of horrible names etc) but in the end it was well worth sorting through all the garbage ;)

My BF also doesn''t want people to know about the whole match.com thing....I don''t care. I just think it''s another way to meet people...so who cares. His friends/family don''t know...and I always tell him that one day it will slip out and he''ll just feel silly!

.

It''s funny because he e-mailed me first without a picture...and I wasn''t sure if I should answer, but I did anyway. Then he sent a picture and I almost fainted!
30.gif
he has the most beautiful smile ever and that''s all it took!

. We talked on the phone after a week of the first e-mail and met in person a week after that

It''s good to know we all have so much in common! I love this forum!

I met my BF through match.com as well (and I never let him forget the fact that I was the one to wink at him). I was so nervous the first time about meeting him that I dragged a whole bunch of people to sit at a table opposite me in case he turned out to be a complete basket case.

Another match.com success story here! I met my sweetie after a few e-mails where we shared our love for foreign and independent film. After a week of e-mail and exchanging pictures, we decided to get together for a quick dinner and a movie. We actually saw each other at the escalator from the subway on the way to the restaurant, he was ahead and when he looked back down there I was, praying that the tall man with the beautiful eyes was my date.

We have been together for almost four years and engaged for 8 months now. He is also shy about sharing the match.com thing, I tease him that we are both geeks so it really fits us well

Add me & my FI to the Match.com tally. I think eHarmony is kind of a joke because

1. We were both on that ALSO, and though we lived less than 5 miles apart, could be mistaken for brother & sister and have a ton of similar interests/qualities --- they never "matched" us and kept sending me (5''9", Southern, creative) profiles of 5''3" variously foreign doctors many thousands of miles away.
20.gif
...

2. When we first met, we "set up" two of our best friends, his & mine, that both lived in Southern California. They HATED each other. Like HATE HATE. Few months later guess who matched them ... yup EHarmony. They both cancelled their memberships THAT DAY
3.gif

Haha, we didn''t... but we did sorta... We actually met at a cook-out that his friend was having and I was invited by another friend who''d always wanted us to meet (but I hadn''t really paid that much attention to her attempted fix-up b/c he lived in a different city). Anyhow, we''re at the cook-out & he keeps saying he knows me from somewhere & I look really familiar... Eventually he realizes that he had seen my profile on match.com. He tells everyone that we met on the internet, which drives me nuts because we didn''t... But I guess in a way, he met me on the internet?!?!

My BF and I met online. However even I am embarrassed to the WHOLE truth. We actually met on one of those voting sites where you vote if the person is attractive. And sent one email and started talking on yahoo messenger. We are also both members of myspace.com and conversed on there daily so thats where we say we met. But I called him like a week or so after we met online, and the first phone conversation lasted 2.5 hours! We have talked every single day since then

I met mine in June '03. I kept staring at his friendly smile til I finally wrote him. After emailing and talking on the phone for a week, we met for dinner and were the last to leave the parking lot many hours later. The following weekend he stayed for the weekend. He wanted to go get a haircut, and afterwards, told me he told the hairdresser he was visiting his girlfriend, then turned towards me and said, "Is it OK if I call you my girlfriend?" I melted.....2 years later he moved in and we are getting married on 7-7-7.......we feel we hit the jackpot of love by meeting online...like a needle in the haystack...could we get any luckier???
