I went to a specialty bra shop in town today and found 2 bras that seem to be very good contenders for my dress. I hated the bras they had at Demetrios where I bought the dress. They didn''t give enough support and looked weird under the dress. They also hit at a weird spot before the dress gets full so you could sort of see them through the dress. I tried on one that I have at home with the dress and you could definitely see it in the hip area.

The two bras that I liked at the store today were $65 each. Does that sound right? I know that''s about what David''s charges, but I always kind of thought that all wedding stores jack up the price of that stuff. What did everyone else spend on theirs?

Robbie, I (and, according to the seamstress I''m working with, many other brides) opt to have cups sewn into the dress, eliminating the need for a bra...

Is this an option? It may eliminate some of the issues you mentioned...

Just a thought...otherwise, yeah, I have to say that 65 bucks sounds like a bit much for a bra. But that''s me. I don''t deck "the girls" out much.

David's charges $50, but I got mine on sale for $25 there. It was a corset type with boning.

Have you tried a one piece bra/slip? Thats what I used. It was from victorias secret and I think it was only $48.. That way you don''t have to worry about weird lines..

No bra for me...just cups!

no bra, no cups, just me.
one of the advantages to my "boyish" figure!

I definitely need support (boning), so I don''t think just cups or nothing will work. The ones at Davids that I tried on were doing this weird bunchy thing under every dress I tried on so I don''t think I could get one of those either.

MelissaSue, does the bra slip thing stay up well? I have a problem with strapless bras falling down.

Robbie -- I am definitely ample in the chestal region...the "cups" are really a bra sewn into the dress. I also having boning in the bodice...again, though, if you are more comfy with a bra, I''d go to a department store and talk to one of the salesladies in the undergarments department...they can be very helpful in identifying what you need.

You may also want to explore the "stick on" bras...they offer support and cleavage (if you want it)...VS has them, and there''s something also called NuBra or something...you can google it.

Hope this helps.

I wore a corset on the day of my wedding. It was Victoria''s Secret. I loved the way it supported my boobs, since I''m kinda large on top (D cups) and the corset was seamless, so it didn''t show through the dress at all. My favorite part was it made me look one size smaller since it held everything in. Hee. Gotta love that.

Oh, the price was a little high though, but it was worth it. $85, I think.

Mine was around $50 for a long line bra.

I wore the one from david''s. Maybe you had the wrong size on?

I bought a bra for being a bm that was a felina, a soft corst type, similar to one they had at Davids, for about $40 on sale at macys. I just bought another stik-on type bra at victorias secret, which I may be able to wear with my dress, but bought for another outfit, for $48. I tried the stick-on scilicone nu-bra like tihng on, and it gave no support, and was too thick - I don''t really want to increase my bust, just keep it in one place. And I am a B, so it''s not like it was holding up much. But it still kept them about 1 inch lower that I wanted them. I bought a stick on underwire one instead - it''s like a strapless in front, but instead of going all the way around, it has clear tabs that go out about 6"s from the cups on either side.

A good bra is worth the money!! If the one I bought doesn''t work with my dress, I''ll probably have cups put it, but I really would rather actually be wearing something - I plan on changing outfits, and bringing a bra is one less thing I want to worry about.

I also worn the corset from VS and it stayed up very well (no pulling or tucking). It holds everything in and up. It is kind of pricey though.

I think I might go for the expensive one. It felt really comfortable and it really sucked everything in, so there would be no need for spanx or something similiar. I definitely don''t want to wear a stick on bra. I have a great one, but it doesn''t give any lift, just cleavage and I''d like some lift on the wedding day. Plus, I don''t feel too sexy ripping the stick on bra off, and I''d like to feel sexy on my wedding night

Good call then. However, this would make a hell of a funny scene in a movie!

Speaking of which, congrats about your sister!

ETA: The movie thing. I didn't mean to sound sordid about your sister! I'm so excited for your family!

I got the kind that is strapless with a low back with a slimming middle and shorts attached. It looks completely ugly alone, but does wonders for making a sleek line under my dress and pulling my middle in. It was around $52 from JC Penny''s.

Long line corset-type bra...$15 on ebay...worn once, beautiful condition too. Sucks me in and lifts the gals up. Perfect fit!

Had you tried it on in person before you ordered on ebay or did you just get lucky with an awesome fit?

No, I just bought it right off ebay. I figured I had little to lose for $15. And it works great and fits perfectly!

Another ebayer here! I went through this ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/Perfect-Fittings-Bridal-Foundations

I purchased a longline strapless that had boning for around $35. I''m a bit thick in the waist, and needed something to cinch me a bit. I took a chance with the fit, but lucked out. I also went and tired some on at VS and Fredericks to make sure that I was the size I thought. And I did have an extensive email exchange with the gal from the ebay store to see how their different styles fit.

GOOD LUCK!

Robbie - Yes, the bra/slip stays up really well... I loved it with my wedding dress.. And it was very comfortable. I didn''t notice it at all, except for the one time when I went to the bathroom and forgot to pull it down.. so it was bunched up around my waist.. hehe..
The only thing that wasn''t FABULOUS about it is it didn''t seem to give TONS of lift (I am used to a push up bra)..I used chicken cutlets.. so it was good for my wedding dress, but i tried to wear it with another dress last month and I felt like I looked very boxy in it..

I went to David''s during my lunch break and tried on the two styles that they carry. They fit sooo differently! I tried both on in the same size and one was huge and the other was the right size, but did this weird bunching thing. They didn''t have the non-bunchy one in the right size and said they wouldn''t be getting any in unless I ordered it which would lock me into buying something there. Judging by how differently everything fits me even when it''s labeled as the same size I don''t think I want to go the ebay route. The David''s Bridal one that I think I would''ve liked had it been in the right size was only $5 less than the one I tried on at the other store.

I spent $70 but I have a very difficult time finding bras in my size (34/36 DD depending on the maker) so I had to suck it up and buy what fit. My seamstress told me, post purchase, that a good seamstress will tailor your dress so that you don''t need a bra at all. I wasn''t comfortable with the idea though, so I wore the corset bra.

My dress needs something underneath it to suck me in a bit, so if I don''t get a corset bra I''ll need some spanx or something similar. I''d rather just have the bra I think.

That looks very similiar to the one that I really like, but I think mine came down a bit lower like the one in the top right corner when you click the link. I wish I would've looked at the name and style number of the bra. I guess I have to go back and try it on with the dress anyway, so I can look then and see if I can find it anywhere for cheaper.

ETA: The more I look at it, the more I think it's this one http://www.biggerbras.com/dominique-bridal-bras-full-figure-bras/dominique-strapless-bridal-full-figure-lace-torsolette-8950-dom-8950.shtml

"torsolette" rings a bell.

The funny thing was, this was not my first bra that I had bought. The first one I had bought at Macy''s and I tried it on with my gown a week later, and it looked AWFUL. The girl helping me at the bridal salon where I bought my dress was like "this bra is all wrong, you need a new one". That''s when I took it upon myself to get fitted at a real lingerie shop - I ended up going up a size!

It really does make a huge difference with the dress - see if they offer a good return or exchange policy.

unfortunately there''s a no returns or exchanges policy at the lingerie store that carries the bra I like, so I''ll have to drag the dress in with me to try it on.
