How much does a bezel darken a stone?

Hello all. I am just now sticking my toe in the world of colored stones.

I have a project in mind and I've been looking for a gemstone. But my plan is to have the stone in a engraved bezel and I am not sure how much darker that will make the stone look. Do I need to look for something super light to make sure it doesn't black out? Is it all dependent on the cutting? Is there anyway to tell how dark a stone would get in a bezel?

Of course any before/after pics of bezeled stones would be much appreciated. Thanks!

So I like the color of something like this:

I like the blue green to red purple color change. But I am afraid a bezel would darken it too much and the daylight color would just be a dark grey black. :blackeye:

Color change garnets are typically very dark, and that stone is no exception. I would refrain from bezeling it. However, I am not a fan of bezels for a myriad of reasons, but if you insist on a bezel, get a superb jeweler. I've seen more botched bezels than anything else, and damaged stones as a result.

I was hoping to do a engraved bezel to get the full antique-esque look. Like the following but with the engraved bezel, I just saw posted.

I have a diamond pave bow that I was going to have put on top to make a pendant. Is there a non-bezel was to get the same look?
