Ladies, I found a grocery bill thread in the Hangout and I got curious. My FI and I are LDR so we''re not currently living together yet. We plan to do this some time next year. How much do you currently spend on groceries by yourself if you''re living alone right now? If you''re living with your SO, think back to when you were by yourself. How much has it increased if you do live with your SO or how much do you expect it to increase if you currently live apart?

I currently spend less than $200 a month and that includes cleaners, garbage bags, etc. That even includes me going out for dinner about 2x a month. I guess I just want to see what I''m in for since I know that guys can eat a lot....

I can''t count that high.

Seriously, with four little eating machines in the house, I''m CONSTANTLY having to buy more food! I go to Sam''s once a month, which helps big time, but by the end of the month I have only one or two loaves of bread left in the big freezer (we use roughly one family size loaf in 24-30 hours), the milk is gone (I buy 4 gallons at a time, and I try to make that last a week), there''s no sugar, no decaf, etc. God help me if I run out of chicken nuggets!

I read that thread too Lucky. I have to say, I am gobsmacked... I recently moved over here (the US) from the UK. There I lived w BF, here I live alone. In the UK I spent on average £200 a month on groceries, here I am spending $100 dollars a week (so $400 a month)! I lived in London, and thought that groceries over here would be cheaper. But I am SHOCKED at how expensive groceries are here. In particular fresh fruit and veg. I am shopping at Martins, is that known to super expensive? Maybe it is true that it is cheaper to buy for 2 than it is to buy for 1....

I spend about $200/month on food and entertainment. It''s really not so bad, but if I want to eat fresh it gets pricey very quickly.

I don''t even want to say.... but suffice it to say we spend more than we should on groceries

but we spend even more on dining out

it takes up more than half a pay check for us Yikes!

I spend 80-130 every 5-7 days. On average, probably about 100 a week. That''s for the two of us-- food, non-grocery items like cleaning supplies, etc. No extras like dining out or the dry cleaners.

And that is with my being reasonably careful about what I buy. We eat well, and I buy a lot of healthy things, but I also take care not to buy expensive items (prepackaged foods, individual sizes that end up being far more per serving, etc). From what I can tell, grocery costs vary a lot regionally. I''m in Alberta and things tend to be a bit spendy here since we''re so far away from everything. It''s not unusual for raspberries to be $5/pint, etc.

I spend about $40/week on groceries, and we dine out once or twice a week. B also picks up an item or two on his way home from work, but the way we've been splitting bills, it's usually me buying groceries and him paying cable or something. I'm lucky that we have a gigantic freezer; it's easy to buy in bulk with things like meats when they go on sale, and that generally cuts the bill down. I also have to admit that that figure does not include cleaning supplies, as the combo of two neat-freaks moving in together meant that when we merged households, we ended up with an entire closet full of paper towels, swiffers, bleach, etc. and we won't be needing to replenish those for at least a few more months.

When I lived in Chicago, I spent quite a lot more on groceries just for myself -- usually between the $70-80 range every week. I don't know if I've gotten smarter at shopping, or if the cost of living difference is really that great -- probably a little of both.

$100/week for 2 adults and a toddler

Please don''t ask how much I spend on coffee...

I''m right with the norma at about $100/week for two adults. We try to switch off each trip but I always get the non grocery items separately from the discount stores. Add those in that''s probably another $30 to $50 a months for deodorant, toothpaste, detergent, etc.

To me, that''s not too bad since there''s also a toddler in the picture. Anytime there''s children I figured grocery would definitely go up like wink_elf said. I just needed a reality check at least so that if our grocery bill''s at $400, we''re normal. Right now if you add groceries for the two of us (separately since we don''t live together) with the dining out, he''s at $500 monthly (mainly cause he eats out a lot) and my $200 monthly....just gets me worried....that''s rent for either one of us! Actually that''s rent and a water bill.....

Ive been spending 75 a week for lunch at the mall... nothing good either really crappy food court food (my poor arse is getting bigger).
at home we spend roughly 350-400 a month on groceries, we eat fresh and really good meats.

We live together and we spend between 120-150ish every other week at the grocery store. Plus another 50 i''d guess at costco. So id say about 200 every 2 weeks which really isn''t bad for 2 adults. That includes most lunches too. We try to take our lunches-much healthier and a lot less expensive.

I can''t remember what i spent on my own... maybe 50-100 or so? i have no idea.

After reading the other responses I don''t dare put mine down

I need a lesson from some you on how to grocery shop for less $!!! It is WAY more than most on here for me and my boyfriend. I tend to buy everything fresh and it costs a fortune! I really need to work on this

I live by myself in Northern California and I spend about $200 a month on groceries. At one point my boyfriend lived with me and during that time I''d say that groceries cost about $325 a month. (In my opinion boys eat a lot. hehe)

i live with two roommates and we all spend about 150/month for food (plus cleaning supplies). so in a month the three of us (plus our boys are over a lot) spend about 450/month.

SO and I spend ~$350-400 a month (combined, not each) on food. But we also rarely eat out (maybe once a week -- maybe).

It costs about $80-100 extra to feed our two little stinker cats :)

$80-$100 a month to feed the kitties? Wow...they must eat better then me! I have one kitty (7 lber). She
barely eats a $7 bag of cat food a month. What do you feed yours?
