How much of an increase for noticeable size difference?

This is a general question.

How much increase in size does it take to notice an obvious size difference. I know we need to look at spread so is it .20mm? .30mm? .50mm? More? If you can make a general comparison in point size increase that would be great too.

Just learning. Thanks!

I've read on here many times that people say at 0.2mm you start noticing a difference. That's with Rounds tho.

I'm going to respond because I was just comparing 3 diamonds I had with me. I could absolutely tell the size difference between the 7.28 mm (1.40ct) and the 7.39 mm (1.51ct) diamonds. These were right next to each other in one of those showcase cases so all I had to go on was the face-up diameter. Girlfriend could tell right away too. BUT, this is obviously unmounted, side-by-side, and face-up only.

EDIT: Once I tossed each in our setting, it became more difficult, but then the extra volume (which produced additional height) of the 1.51 ct gave it away.

It really depends on the size of the diamond (round) you are comparing it to... for example, you will see a difference from a 5.5 to a 5.7, but may not see any at all in a 9.2 to a 9.5 mm. Smaller mm difference are easier to see in smaller stones, because the overall percentage of "growth" is larger.

I see what you mean about bigger percentage.

Would you say 5.98 to 6.22 would be a big enough increase to make the leap or would you wait for greater? Say 6.3

Or maybe for people who have an opinion with a 5.95 x 5.98 stone at what point do you start to consider an upgrade in size?

From 6mm, I think to make it "worth it" you need to get well over the 1ct mark and into the vicinity of 6.8mm. That is based on my own experience. I am not only considering the apparent size, but the cost as well.

Thank you Dreamer! This is what I meant. I just didn't know how to ask the question. I should have added somewhere making it worth the upgrade and noticing size difference that feels like a difference. Some new ACAs were released and for a brief moment I lost my mind.

Oh my gosh! You will absolutely NOT believe this!!! My studs are 6.0mm, and I talked to Sheerah TODAY about a pair right at 6.2mm each, and she said she really thought I should wait and get closer to 1 ct (6.4-6.5mm) in order to see enough of a size difference. There just isn't that much difference between a 6 and 6.2, however, I would recommend a 6.2 at the outset if a person is deciding between 6.0 and 6.2. It just isn't worth the upgrade and potential change in settings unless it is the absolute final upgrade (and I will be the first to tell you, we never really know when that is!!! I set these studs in platinum thinking I'd never upgrade....)
