How much planning is too much planning?

How much planning have you been doing before getting engaged? My boyfriend the other day asked me why I wanted to be engaged so bad and quite frankly I am really excited to plan a wedding so he told me go ahead and plan it if you want but I feel so weird doing that. I mean I know what I want in my head. I have it narrowed down to two places for the venue, I know what kind of dress I would like, I know I want it to be Spring time, garden type wedding, I know the kind of flowers for the bouquet and the center pieces, the color of the bridesmaids gowns. Is this all kind of crazy?

By the way the big question is coming sometime between Christmas and April! Here is a picture of us from his graduation!

Well, I think it's fine and fun to imagine, look at magazines, etc., but I'd wait to actually buy a dress or put deposits down until the proposal is imminent (i.e., he has the ring in his possession). Next April is a long time away. If you already know you're getting engaged FOR SURE, then do you know what he's waiting for? Is he just saving for the ring? If you guys have agreed for sure to get married, then you're basically already engaged.

In which case, it should be less 'why are you so anxious to get engaged?' and more 'so what's his hold-up in announcing it to the world?'

Super-cute pic by the way. What did he win the medal for?

I agree with the above. We have purchased the ring and it will be in his possession by tomorrow. Last week I went with my family to check out two venues (just to be pro-active since we would like to get married next Fall), but we will not sign a contract until the ring is on my finger!!

I agree also with the girls above. I know what things I like but we are waiting until we get engaged officially to book anything

He is saving up for the ring. He just got his first job and wants to have some money in the bank but we have basically picked out the ring and the hold up is just saving up! I am very excited...but he doesn''t want to announce w/o the ring he is an old fashioned kind of guy!

Then I would just sit tight and do some additional research for now.

Ditto dps. There's no harm in looking, but purchasing or putting down deposits this early may come back to bite you in the butt if your ideas change. Research is always good, though. I've been engaged for 7 months and the only thing I've put money down on is the venue! There's lots more to planning than actually booking/buying

I am totally guilty of looking at wedding stuff, even though it''s not going to happen for a couple of years

On the other hand, I''m with the other girls on here in that I wouldn''t set anything in stone. Something that I''ve found helpful in letting me daydream is keeping a folder with all the stuff I find that I like. That way, when it comes time to actually decide, I have a bunch of ideas to look through and choose from.

The latest addition to said folder has been this dress *drool*:

I''d hold off, too. Cute picture of you two, by the way!

Hey ladypirate: who makes that dress you posted?! It''s beeeyooteeful!

It''s by Augusta Jones (www.augustajones.com). I love the train on it so much!
