How often do/did you change your mind?

About what you want in a ring, specifically. DBF likes to poke fun at my (to him) constantly changing desires in my future engagement ring.

First I wanted a simple 6 prong round diamond solitaire.
Then I wanted an Oval 6 prong solitaire.
Then I wanted an Oval white sapphire.
Then I wanted a Blue sapphire.
Then I decided a plain solitaire wasn't my thing, and started looking at Halos. :halo:
Decided they were too delicate for my clumsy self for everyday wear and went back to no-pave.
Fell in love with x-prongs/trellis settings.
Saw cushion cut blue sapphires and decided that's what I wanted, or an oval if cushion couldn't happen.
Just recently I've seen the light in regards to rose gold. :lickout:
Batted around a solid rose gold setting for a day, then figured rose gold accents would be perfect on a white gold setting.
With a two toned band to match.

So now I'm thinking a blue cushion cut sapphire (5x6 or 5x7, I think) with a white gold x-prong solitaire with rose gold "bands" on the shank. When I picture it it makes me go "Want!!! Wantwantwant" in my head.

Ugh... Just one more year until the precious...

So, what's your journey looked like?

haha that's funny! there are just so many options these days, that i'm sure it's hard for anyone to pick and stick to one single design from the word go.

i was never one to dream about my engagement ring before it all started getting real, so i was just a completely clueless person when starting the research. i was initially drawn to round halos, firstly a sapphire halo with diamond centre because SO likes sapphires. then an all diamond round halo. and then a 4 prong solitaire. and now a 6 prong solitaire with pave band... which is what i will be getting (custom made)! i think SO was scared for a while that i would change my mind again, but i'm so excited about the final design and can't wait to see it in real life :)

I have wanted a sapphire center stone for years, but first it was an oval with two pears, then a round with two pears, then three rounds.

I originally thought I wanted an emerald cut stone. Saw an asscher and fell in love. When looking for a setting, I saw the one I wanted with a round for the center stone. this made me want a round for about a week. I knew deep down though that I would have always wondered what the asscher would have looked like my finger. So we went with an asscher. I figure whenever I get a sapphire or ruby ring, I will get it in a round cut. I think it is totally normal to change your mind though. good luck in your selection process and enjoy it because it sure is fun! :D

I change my mind every 30 seconds.

Halo? No halo. Halo! No halo? :angryfire: I wish I can just make up my darn mind!

I was torn between rounds and cushions. We ultimately went round because an amazing OEC deal came up that was too good to pass on. I'd like a cushion in some fashion eventually.

I knew solitaire and plain was for me, but before I found PS I never knew of bezels. So I assumed I'd go with a standard 6 prong solitaire. Then I found PS. Then I found bezels. Then I found Sholdt.

I feel like the rate of my indecisions is FINALLY starting to slow down! I have about 4 options that I think I would be equally happy with at this point, but I may as well have considered everything.

Halos, antique, art-deco, bezel, 3-stone, 4-prong solitaire, 6-prong solitaire, solitaire with a fancy basket, split prong, pave, no pave... I'm so glad I have some time before we are ready to get engaged or I would probably be planning a re-set already!

Add potential band combinations into the equation and it just gets worse :loopy:

Since we are going with a coloured stone, a lot will depend on the stone - and colour is more important to me than shape. I think we will go with either a plain solitaire or simple 3-stone once we finally find "the stone", and save my desire for "options" for RHRs and anniversary bands.

Oh... I was all over the place and back, until I found my e-ring. The only thing about 'falling in love' with so many settings is the risk of disliking my e-ring in the future, regretting not getting another setting.

But, I (and my SO!) have told myself that this is IT. No turning back. I hope? lol

I am so fickle that I haven't been certain about anything yet.

I fear I never will be! :errrr:

Too often, but now I think I've finally settled on two rings that I've fallen in love with. I haven't seen them in person, but the pictures just make my heart flutter.

My first engagement ring was a modern cushion, which I absolutely adored and loved, but since that relationship didn't work out, my love for modern cushions kind of died.

But, I worked with JbEG to design my first ring and that's when I was introduced to OECs. OMG they are beautiful, and since then I've been fascinated by them. I'm pretty set on an OEC engagement ring, but now and then I explore emerald cut diamonds. There is something about them that are so classy and elegant, but I don't know how I'd feel about it being my engagement ring. A RHR is never out of the question though! :naughty:

I showed my boyfriend the two rings I narrowed down as my dream rings. He was very sweet about it, telling me that I had great taste in rings and that he loved both of them. I bet he's leaning more towards the less costly one though, he had the facetious  when looking at the prices of each ring, but said I'd be worth every penny. I think we're going to have a much more serious talk about our future veeeeeeerrrrryyyyyy soon, so hopefully I can contribute to list movement with the next 6-12 months!

My mind use to change all the time but as our anniversary ( 2 yrs) is getting closer i am trying to narrow my love for everything down. For stone choices i am torn between antique cushions , daussi cushions and precision cut gem stones preferably a Victoria brilliant cut in a light pink color ,I am leaning closer to the light pink gemstone at this point. For settings i either like the the DBL " uber " halo setting or the daussi H20.

I have this vision in my head of what i hope the ring will look like , i have asked SO let me help pick the center stone and see it but have told him i don't want to know about the finished ring.

crossing my fingers that it will happen in a few months

hehe you know this is where I am too! currently though my ideal would still be a square H&A cushion with pave band but with an intricate basket so that would either be the tacori 2638 or I would have to go custom. otherwise, my thought is that we will suck it up and pony up the money for the T&Co novo

LOL! and what better way to satiate that thirst than with some bling viewing?

I've been married 6 years and still change my mind constantly. It suits me. There's all this emotion tied up in what should be this amazing ring that you keep and love and cherish forever. Bollocks. I change my jewelery, including rings, as often as I change my outfits. Why not? I certainly can't see one ring, though it's a nice ring, being the only one I ever wear on my left ring finger.

Before engagement I wanted a 3/4 carat pear in ridged setting, then an oval, a cushion, and finally an old cut. Then I went on to make a decision about the setting, engraved, filigree, sapphire sides, plain, and finally tapered baguette sides. I've always had a love / hate relationship with it and was forever plotting it's change. But now that the pressure is off to pick a forever ring I'm finding it much more fun to collect rings to wear as subs. I'm a fickle pickle.

The only flip-flopping I've done is that I used to want a MRB and now I want an OEC/Tranny. My setting ideas are mostly the same and I've never wavered about the shape of the stone...just the era :-)

I always knew I wanted a plain solitaire, but I have changed my mind about center stones many times. Went from Modern Round to AVC to OEC and back to modern round and have toyed with the idea of a 3 stone. If I had the money to have multiple e-rings that I could interchange depending on my mood, I would definitely do it.

Ahhhh, i know...its like going back and forth. I really loved the novo, but i know how "hard" it is to get a really well cut diamond there, and when he did find it....the 1ct mark would be out of my price range. Realistically, next time i am in NY i would love to stop at ERD show him some beautifully cut cushions (as close to 1:1 ratio as possible) - then go to GOG in LI and see the brellia and AVC, just so he could see the difference. I have bowed out of this entire process, but i would like him just to see the differences between all sorts of cushions before i completely set him on his own :Up_to_something: I know even though the novo is more expensive, he secretly wishes i still wanted it, because its preset and "easier" in his mind :nono: He's not getting off that easy. :)

I think that is probably where we will be when we start to seriously look at rings/diamonds. I feel like the Novo would be so much easier but I just can't swallow that price and how little bang for the buck you get (even if he's paying)...OBVIOUSLY not that it's bad quality, but as PSers we are willing to do the extra research and hunting that most normal consumers don't want to go through. I would love to see the different cuts IRL though!!! the videos just aren't the same.

so yeah speaking of, would totally love an east-siders sparkly road trip!!! after this year of rotations, as long as I get a job I should be able to take some more time off!!!
