How picky are you about matching diamond band colors to your ering?

As an avid band collector, I sometimes make the mistake of falling for the band’s style and in my initial excitement, I overlook the color of the stones. It takes me a couple of hours and lighting situations to experience annoyance at the difference! I have soo many gorgeous bands that I rarely stack bc they do not pair well with my GIA E stone. How about you? Do you embrace the contrast? Would these two examples bother you?7D7DDCDA-F3C3-4D9A-9418-A63ACD4CDE96.jpeg

I don't sweat the small stuff. I think it's very easy to get borderline ridiculous on matching shades of melee sized stones in companion pieces that no one is going to notice, or care about. I think it's a shame that so many beautiful bands may get relegated to the nah pile for something that, for me, is more micro concern.
That being said, I don't have many diamond bands or any big diamonds. So, what do I know? I have zero issue with either band.
The only caveat I have is when a halo comes into play on a modern piece. They should closely compliment/match unless the contrasting is deliberate. But if it isn't kissing your main stone directly, no one is going to notice but you- it becomes a question of personal parameter.

I guess my answer would be no, as well, as I don't see a measurable difference in color in these photos

Maybe it's my eyesight or my monitor, but I don't really see a color difference.
I've actually never even thought about the question you pose. I stack my rings often and just put the ones together that I think look nice. It's usually about a complementary style and that's about it. But I don't have any E or F stones. I have a decent sized EC that's a G and the rest are a bit warmer because mostly old cuts, so maybe the stones in my bands are in the G/H/I range as well.

I’ve made this mistake before. For some reason it doesn’t bother me if the bands are stacked with eachother, but when pairing with a larger/more prominent stone it does bother me.

I do not see a notable difference either, though I am no expert. I am a Virgo however and we can get caught up with this type of thing!

I actually came here to say…..when I saw that band in your first pic, I gasped - honestly. It would have to be THE prettiest band I have ever seen, it is absolutely stunning :kiss2:

I genuinely can’t see a colour difference in your photos. My bands all have quite small stones so they just look white and I’ve never worried about them matching or not.
That first band is lovely!

I wear a G 3 carat eternity asscher band next to a L 2.7 carat pear and don’t care :)

So my initial reaction is I like to mix and match but one caveat.
It depends on the stone color.

I enjoy mixing and matching metals but once a diamond is involved it has to be complementary. They don't have to match per se but I wouldn't like the metal color to bring out a less than flattering color of the diamond. If that makes sense. Basically I have to see it to evaluate it as no rules apply per se. It just depends on a case by case basis.

So while I enjoy mixing and matching metals, yellow gold with white gold with pink gold once a diamond is involved all bets are off and each group has to be evaluated on its own merits.

I neglected to mention in my original opinion post that I think both combos are beautiful. The second is a more cohesive look, the first is stunning without "matching."

I have a similar tendency to want the colors to match. Your top example wouldn’t bother me at all. The stones are small and it’s the detail of the design that really stands out, not the color of the stones. Also, because this design is more vintage or antique, I can more easily forgive the less perfect match.
The second band might bother me if it was a set I planned to wear on a daily basis. I’d want the whole set to match well. If it was a band that I just felt like wearing with my Ering on occasion, but mainly wore on a different finger, it wouldn’t bother me.
That’s just me… they both look beautiful and i doubt that anyone else will notice the difference. It’s all in what makes you happy!

Sorry if off topic but having the patterns/styles of the e-ring and bands not matching seems a lot more prominent to me than any difference in diamond coloring would be.

Diamond bands (with the possible exception of those made to match the e-ring, as they were in the older wedding sets) to me most often just give the overall impression of a bit of visual confusion or competing with the e-ring, or whatever you'd call it.

I'd just wear that gorgeous e-ring with a plain band and wear the wedding band on the other hand. So I guess it's more the whole non-matching trend that I'm not a fan of but of course jmho.

It bothers me a little when I wear warm diamonds with colorless diamonds. I like them all on their own but the subtle difference when worn together does bother me a bit. I know most people just see lots of sparkle but I’m just sensitive to it I think.

Ok. So pic above is me trying to drown out the difference by stacking with an engraved band. Lol

Thank you! It’s a Simon G band!

Maybe try the engraved band in between the diamonds, so you center diamond is not overlapping the diamond band?

Imho the first one looks great. The second one, idk if it is a color difference so much as a quality difference, but it is noticeable. But it doesn’t look awful.

Personally… I’m not a fan of putting h or lower next to d. I can tell the difference between g and d next to each other but it doesn’t bug.

I think the lighting in my first pics didn’t translate into what I see. Here is a more obvious contrast. 40F97D1C-B6EF-4761-8C67-079513535425.jpeg

@nala I was all set to say it wouldn’t bother me at all..The first one looks really pretty..I don’t see a difference at all. I think it’s because the diamonds are small in the bright white band. The second photo at HD would bother me. There’s a big difference in the color of the diamonds. Your engagement ring is so white..What color are the diamonds in the band? I love the band though!

Prob I color bc prior to my E, it worked well with my GIA I. I guess it doesn’t help that I’m nearsighted, lol.

Now I can see what you are talking about. The first stack looks quite pretty, and any color difference wouldn't bother me because the it is somewhat masked, imo, by the difference in diamond cuts and the slight antiquing of the chevron band. The second pictured stack would bother me because the color difference is more pronounced, coupled with the distinct difference in cut and the proportion of the asscher band looks to me to be a little too large, personal opinion and all.

I see the difference, but it wouldn't really bother me if the only time I saw it was in those bright white store lights. I like the first stack even with the color difference, but I agree with @RMOO I might notice it more in the second, with the asscher band, but honestly, I like the stack in the first photo better anyway.

It does depend on the color and the cut.
A G colored 1ct RBC looks very white compared to a F colored 1ct radiant or most cushions.
A 5ct F looks much lower color than 1ct G.

It also depnds on who calls mellee what color!

I actually notice it more in basic average lighting. The contrast is striking to me. When I had my Gia I, I had the opposite problem. I recall selling a couple of bright white bands bc they made my I look super tinted.
