So for all you pave'' owners, how picky should I be with a custom made ring as far as pave'' goes? I know it is very labor intensive and tedious. Upon very close inspection of my ring there are ares on the halo pave'' that are uneven and there are 2 diamonds that are not set flat. It almost looks pitted. Am I being too much of a perfectionist or should I be concerned? My DH noticed it right away and he is not a perfectionist! Thanks for any insight.

I second that- it should be perfect everywhere on the ring!

I didn''t have the chance to post before, but your ring is beautiful and unique. get those trouble spots corrected and cherish it!

Ditto that. I hope your jeweller will be willing to fix it!

my ring from leon is is nearly perfect w/ regard to the pave...............

I wouldn''t expect anything but perfection from Leon!! You lucky girl!!!
I am going to sit with my ring for the weekend and see how it goes, I do want it perfect but I don''t know how it will go over w/ the jewler and frankly I want to show it off alittle this weekend!!!! Do you think I should call today and give them a heads up or wait? I think I should call.

It should be perfect. Im like that. My engagement setting took them 4 tries to get right.

I think you should call and tell them you want to bring the ring by on Monday or whenever to get some stuff (that wasn''t done right) tweaked. It''s better you tell them now, so they know you noticed it right away, and then bring it in after the weekend.

In a similar situation I called right away because I knew I would worry about it the whole weekend if I didn''t.

Well I feel much better, I called and they immediately said bring it in and we will do what it takes to make it right. You know good customer services goes So far!!!

YAY! Glad to hear that.

Fire when is your ring redo going to be coming back?

minga, glad to hear they are being very accomodating about tweaking the ring!

ame, what a freaking saga with my pear re-set - i had 2 meetings w/ my jeweler, an hour + each time, documenting in detail all the things wrong w/ the first ring, and a week ago i saw the new wax...and it was virtually a smaller version of what they had done the first time. i almost lost it in the store. after visibly being upset about the whole thing being wrong and dragging on forever, and reiterating again all the things they had not done correctly, i am waiting for the second wax. if it''s not perfect, heads are going to roll. it''s been 2 months i haven''t had my e-ring...and i want it back!

to be continued...

Oh Fire, sorry you are having such a hard time w/ this. I hope the next wax is exacly what you want. It is so hard to tell from the wax too, Are they going to "set" your stone in the wax so you can see what it will look like? Best of luck,
lisa

hey lisa,

they''re not going to put my stone in the wax so i can see how it looks....the designer is in SoCal and he has my stone down there, so he''s not going to ship it with the wax back to NoCal for me to see both together. i''m okay with that...but it is REALLY hard to tell much from the wax considering they didn''t even drill little holes into the shank for me to see how many diamonds will be in it...it''s literally a wax band w/ a pear shaped hole in it...and STILL i can see multiple things wrong with it! that''s saying something.

i''m hoping i get to see a new wax by the end of next week. if not...i''m going to unleash fury like they have never seen!

Well Fire I hope this time they eactually do drill the holes, they did that on my first wax and on the second they didn''t. It made such a difference to be able to see kind of where the diamonds are going to be pave''. I talked to a friend lastnight who referred me to the jewler I am dealing with. She had an awesome ring made, it is a RB in a square pave bezel. Very nice, anyhow I called to ask her if she had any problems or major imperfections w/ her ring and she said "not really" we so wanted to get together so we could closely compare our rings!!! I actually feel alittle better about my ring today but I am still going down there on Monday.

Oh Fire. I am so sorry for you. I had the same problem. They said the wax would take 3 days, it took 2 weeks. In the meantime, my grandfather died (and they were aware he was sick and we were in a rush). We get there and the wax is nothing, nothing like we asked. I asked (in writing) for a 2-2.5MM band and it was a 4 mm band.

We were so upset. We wound up running into a manager at Birks (Canadian version of Tiffany''s) and told him our sordid story. He felt badly for us and said to bring him our stone and Birks would make us a setting. That is what we did and it''s been amazing. I can''t speak highly enough about Birks service.

We went to the original store and bought the stone. We had them fax appraisal to insurer and literally drove down to Birks who started work that day. It should be ready any day now.

The setting is only 3k and they don''t treat us any differently than a customer who purchased the stone from them (the entire ring would have cost $30k at their store). I am hopeful the ring will turn out to be exactly as requested. I have not spoken to birks since the day the stone was dropped off but BF talks to them regularly and is very, very happy with thier service.

If things are going poorly , buy the stone and get it set elsewhere.
