Hi there!
First time poster. I recently purchased a diamond that came back from GIA as graded fancy light yellow brown. I’m not normally a huge fan of colored diamonds, but I bought it as “light brown” from the jeweler and it was a great price, making me able to afford a diamond of this size - it’s also a really spready cut, so that may have affected price. However, I’m really not sure how to set it. Posting pictures here. It looks light brown in the photos but in the video he sent me, I definitely saw the yellow tinge (which I actually don’t love).

I was thinking of setting the diamond with a rose gold bezel with a white diamond small halo around it, hoping the rose might play up the brown/champagne instead of the yellow. But that also might backfire. I also love a three stone. Below are pictures of the setting I was thinking (with the rose gold bezel and elongated cushion) and then adding the kite shaped diamond from the second style with the picture of the oval center. Would love thoughts on the color and how to best work with it and also, different setting options!

I LOVE the idea of a rose gold bezel + white diamond halo. I think it would look AMAZING and would play up the rose/champagne tones. I'm the same in that I don't love yellow hues in diamonds but love champagne/brown/rose colors.

HI:

Wow! Lovely! I'd love to see the stone nestled between your fingers (IRL pics)--that can help inform an opinion.

cheers--Sharon

I have a light brown stone that looks similar to yours (on my monitor). It's small and I put it in a toi et moi with rose just for that stone. It makes it look a bit pinkish. I think that might do the same for yours, but not sure about the yellow tone and how that would affect it.
here's my ring where you can see the brown stone with rose.

I love the halo ring in your first post (the cushion). Is that a pink diamond halo or a white halo? Pink diamonds would be
so pretty but $$$.

it’s actually I believe a light brown diamond set in a rose gold bezel, bringing out pinkish tones, then with a white gold halo around the bezel. Ideally I would love to bring out pink tones, but I’m worried there will be too much yellow and then have a weird effect. I guess I probably won’t know until I try it :confused2:

Yes, that is what I was hoping! I’m just not sure if the yellow will throw it off and not give the champagne/rosey color.

I think a pink halo would be lovely.

Here's an image created by AI for some inspo.

Oh wow! I didn’t even know you could do something like that! Are the diamonds in the halo actually pink or white in rose gold?

That’s beautiful!! Yes, I was hoping rose gold would add a pinkish hue, but yes, the yellow is just throwing me off.
I can’t seem to find any pictures of rings stones that are light yellow brown set in anything but yellow gold. Just like brown/champagne in rose.

I think it will be lovely in rose gold and white diamonds.

If your heart is set on something very very close to your cushion shape inspo (I heart it- light pinkish brown?) with no yellow tinge ever - you’ll be disappointed to some level IMO. Whether you can come to be satisfied with it down the road……….we all vary. .

I also think how much yellow you see in the yellow brown will be dependent on environmental lighting an it’ll be shifty!

I used to own a gia k brown set in 18k rose ages and ages ago and it was shifty going from rosy-ish brown to yellow-ish brown depending on the lighting. These (from the vendor!) vendor photos are pretty accurate. 28A5C32B-479C-484A-8891-D00E53853963.jpeg

I think how much pink it’ll pick up depends on how leaky the oval stone is cut / how much is getting reflected up from the pavilion from rose metal basket. Hard to say how much if any will come thru the girdle area.

I think it’s only a mistake to do if the yellow tint at times paired along with the rose gold doesn’t appeal to you at all.

It's not pinky brown but it's tan brown. I think it's lovely. Maybe hold it next to different metals to see what makes it happy.
Just saw the video, I like it even more. Whiskey brown, cognac VSOP. I'd put that with a coppery rose gold.

Gorgeous stone!

This is wonderful advice! It’s true, it will never look like the cushion inspo picture so I would be setting myself up for disappointment to think it would - so maybe I need to reset my expectations here. That you SO much for sharing those pictures! I think that is probably along the lines of what I might see in my diamond. Maybe a little less color overall because it is cut so shallow to be “spready” (which after googling light leakage, I think it might do that?). Lots for me to learn!

My diamond is from Alex!! How did you get the video to post?? He posted a video of mine too which would show color better.
You’re looks SO pink set! I definitely wouldn’t get that lucky.

I just copied the link from his IG and it posted.......

Ahh, okay. I needed to do it from a desktop computer, it wouldn't let me from my phone. Going to try to add the video to my post.

I'm seeing the yellow in the video. Is Alex going to do the setting? If so, I would ask his advice on what metal to use
to play up the brown and play down the yellow. I'm assuming it will be rose gold which I think would be really pretty
or white gold/metal.

its going to have lots of presence...

Check out Dolly @xothebijouxbox on Instagram! She JUST posted about custom
foil cup settings to draw out a stones color! She has a gorgeous Marquise that is a pinkish brown. It’s under that post.

Or you could check out Alex Park! He has been selling some brown/grey/cape diamonds and he’s got a great eye. He recommended I go with unplated white gold for my true antique OMC upgrade I recently purchased from him to help my stone appear more ivory (love) and less yellow (not a big fan).

Dang it, the links didn’t work. Their handles are @xothebijouxbox and @parksfinegroupinc.
