I''ve seen the "how soon is too soon to buy a wedding dress" threads, and this is along the same lines. Is changing your mind on the type of wedding band you want a common thing? My wedding won''t be until summer 2009. Right now I think I want a diamond eternity band, and I know prices will continue to rise between now and then. Even in just the past year, the band I want has risen in price by about $300-$400. But, I don''t want to buy a band now and then possibly change my mind because it''s such a long way away.

Is 2 years away too far in the future to buy a wedding band now? How early did you buy your wedding band?

For me personally, 2 years would be too early. I seem to change my mind every few days as to what kind of ring I want (poor David).

We just bought ours last month at 5 months out. If you''re sure you want an eternity band, you might want to get it now to save money. You might want to make sure there''s a little metal for sizing, though, just incase your finger changes sizes.

I think this depends on the type of personality you have. I have a tendency to fall for something and that is "it"...as for wedding bands, I''ve been looking for over a year, and we still love the ones we chose a year ago...weding is still one year away, but those are the ones.

My FI and I are in a two-years engagement, and we want to take advantage of that to spread out the spendings. We booked our venues, photographer and musicians last March and we''re planning on ordering the dresses and rings by August/September, one year before the wedding.

I have to admit that last year I would have picked something different... But now I''ve thought about it a good long while!

It was around 9 months before the wedding or something. I wanted to get the purchase out of the way, since it was a big one...and I also *like* to purchase jewelry, so I couldn''t wait until sooner LOL! It''s been hard to wait to wear it, but wearing it around the house has been good enough to tide me over.

Depends...

Mine is in my closet, wedding is about 5 months away. Too early? Well, I can''t stand that I can''t wear it yet but at least I know it''s coming soon... I don''t think I could go through 2 years of that. FI hasn''t started looking yet.

Will you change your mind? Well, an eternity band is pretty classic. Just make sure you''ve looked at all the different STYLES of eternity bands because there are MANY MANY MANY out there.

I bought my wedding band 10 months before my wedding. I wasn''t planning on doing that but I came across a great deal I couldn''t pass up. I knew for sure that I wanted an eternity band as my wedding ring. It was really hard not to wear it before the wedding though!

We''re 6 months out and we just bought mine last week. Would have waited longer but we wanted to take advantage of the current prices since they seem to go up every few months.

I got mine about 2 months before, but we only had a 7 month engagement to start with.

If you were to purchase an eternity band and decide you didnt like it for a wedding band, would you be willing to wear it as a RHR? My other thought is put the money you would spend in a high interest savings account, but I''m not sure you would make enough interest to cover the inflation. Its a thought though.

Well, we got engaged almost 2 weeks ago and I already have my wedding band. We''re hoping to be married in July of next year. We ordered my engagement ring from Whiteflash and we knew we wanted the wedding band to match and sit flush with my ering. We got the band that was recommended to go along with it. We decided to order them at the same time since we knew what we were looking for. If I was getting a more elaborate band, I''d probably wait a while, but the one I got is plain, with a slight curve to it. I''m glad we have it now, as it''s one less thing to have to do in the coming months. We do need to look for a ring for my FI though.

I got DH''s band a few months before the wedding, assuming since he has big fingers it might have to be special ordered. We already had my band because it was my original engagement ring.

We are under 2 months out and just purchased ours.

Thanks, everyone. It looks like many people bought their rings between 2 months and a little over a year. I think it might be better if I wait at least another year or so just in case I change my mind.

njc, I don''t think I''d wear the band as a RHR because I don''t wear much jewelry, and I use my right hand too much to have rings on it, but I really like your idea of putting the money in a high-interest account to try to cover the inflation. I''ll check that out. I''d rather do that than end up having a ring I don''t ever wear.

I bought FI''s wedding band about 6 months before the wedding.

We bought mine back in December due to finding a great deal on what I wanted (.75 ctw 5-stone band). I am so glad we started that soon as they sent us:

1) the wrong ring the first time. It was a 7-stone band when I had orderd a 5-stone. This band was gorgeous tho and as sparkly as I''d hoped (was nervous ordering thru an online place i hadn''t heard of) so I was completely relieved that we hadn''t gotten ripped off and I definitely wanted to buy my (correct) band from them at this point but then

2) they had a huge office fire and kept assuring me that all was going to be okay and since my wedding wasn''t for several months still, AND thier first product looked devine, I decided to stick it out with them (2 months!!) while they got back up and running and sent out the correct 5-stone band. I recieved it about a month ago and altho it''s the correct 5-stone style, the diamonds are not what the first was so they need to reset 2 of the diamonds that are NOT up to snuff so

3)i''m presently waiting for the third band. hopefully it will be both 5-stone AND the H-SI quality I paid for in all 5 stones.

Never even imagined it would take 5 months to get the band I want at the price I could afford with the quality I can live with. sheesh.

I picked up my wedding band two weeks before the wedding but I think we ordered it (it was custom made) 3-4 months before. I would wait.

Our wedding is in July and we purchased our rings in January, so we purchased ours 6 months prior

I can''t wait until July because that will mean I can finally open the box! (evil fiance is making me wait

We got engaged in December, are getting married in Sept and ordered our bands last week. His is ready as-is but mine has to be custom made to match my e-ring. I wanted it the same width as my e-ring and for some reason, the standard wedding band is wider so I''m ordering from a different company that will make it match exactly. For me, we could''ve ordered sooner b/c I knew I wanted mine to match my ring, so I know that won''t change in 3 mo., 6 mo. or anytime in the future.
They told us it''ll take 4-6 weeks so we''ll have it in plenty of time, just in case something needs to be changed, etc...

We were under a month and a half... actually it might have been a month out when we finally bought them and we got them a week before. That''s cutting it a bit close!

Well, if you look at it from a perspective of the time value of money, your $1000 to buy a ring is earning a better rate of return in an interest-bearing account, CD, or other short-term investment than sunk into a ring. Therefore you should let that money earn compound interest for about 2 years and then use it to buy the ring. You will be better off financially at least.

ETA: Inflation in this country is like 2%, so if you open a high-yield account or do CD laddering, you'll definitely beat inflation. The only way this would not be a good idea is if the cost of diamonds was rising faster than 4-5% per year. In that case, the interest you earned would be eaten up. That's what you need to look into, the cost of the materals in the ring.
