Can anyone provide some ideas as to how to attach a veil (one tier floor length) to a hairstyle that''s mostly down? I can''t imagine just sticking the comb in the back of the hair, and I really don''t want it on top of my head. I''m doing a mini-birdcage veil for the reception and some pics, but would really like a traditional veil for the ceremony. I once saw a veil where it wasn''t gathered onto a comb, it seemed to be narrower at the top, and then each corner was clipped into the hairstyle and the middle (between the clips) kind of hung like a crumbcatcher. Would that work? I can''t find pics of that type of veil anywhere. Here are some pics of what i''m doing so far...

What my hairstyle will look like, but I have a more flat feather "flower" instead of a regular flower, and a mini birdcage veil, shown farther down.

And something like this for the veil for the reception...

Or maybe like this..i'm not sure, I haven't made it yet.

By the way, does anyone else find that they're changing their mind constantly on wedding plans. I must have changed my mind at least 30 time on my hair, and twice as many as that on my veil options! It's driving me nutty

Depending on the length/weight of the veil, the comb may be plenty to keep it in your hair. The ones I''ve tried on had metal teeth that did an amazing job gripping on. I have slippery hair that almost never stays in hairclips, and even w/ my hair down it took some work to get the veils to come out! They weren''t right on top of my head, either.

My suggestion is to go try some on with your hair down and see if you can find a comb style that works for you. It won''t be in your hair for very long if it''s just for the ceremony, and you may be pleasantly surprised to find that this is really a non-issue.

Good luck!

It should stay with just the comb. A good friend had a beach wedding on Nantucket with very high winds and wore her hair down with a veil--the stylist just put the comb into her hair and didn''t even pin it and it stayed in without any problems at all despite the wind. Those combs are very secure!

Your stylist can tell you if you need any extra pins during the trial. Definitely bring both veils for the trial. I planned to wear a one-tier, floor length veil for the ceremony and a birdcage for the reception, but ended up ditching the birdcage because it requred several bobby pins to get it the way I wanted and i didn''t want to bother with it. I know yours is a fascinator and not a birdcage, so it should be easier, but make sure you can get it the way you want it during your hair trial so you know what to do when you''re swapping veils.

cute veils, btw!! I definitely changed my mind 100 times, hence both veils :)

Thanks Joy, Eva''s veil sure is pretty!

I wasn''t too worried about the veil staying in with just the comb. I''m worried about the pouf factor of using a comb. I actually like the placement of this veil on the bride (I didn''t think i''d like it there) but i''d definitely want it less poufy at the comb. And this bride''s veil is only 54" wide! Do you think it would be okay if I did a 54" veil, for ultimate sheerness, but then thinned it out at the top (maybe cut it to 30-some inches) so there is less pouf at the comb? Or would that affect how the veil looks behind? I''m making this myself so I can do any alterations you think would help to reduce the poufiness

Could I say pouf more??

You can definitely lessen poof by narrowing the tulle at the top and using a wider comb (to spread the gathering out a bit - 4" comb rather than 3"). Also, using just 1 layer will help. Try looking at some of the sites online where you can custom order your veil. This site has a pretty good gallery that shows different styles of cuts/widths including those made narrower at the top to lessen poof that might give you some idea of what size you like. Hope it helps!!

One way to make it less poofy at the top is to sew on loops instead of a comb. My veil was originally on a comb, but I had my seamstress remove it and sew the loops on. I ended up sticking the comb from my head piece through the loops, but it would''ve stayed in just as well if I''d just attached it with the loops.

Ugh, PS just ate my entry!

Those ideas are super helpful ladies, thanks a lot! ladyciel, that website is the one I was looking for!! This is what I was failing miserably at trying to describe. I''ll probably do this but with a few extra gathers for at least a few ripples in the veil. PS gals have saved my sanity again! Thank you, thank you!
