Hi everyone,

I bought my dress @ David''s Bridal not too long ago, but my wedding isn''t until June 17. It is in a plastic garment bag, hanging up, in my sister''s closet (so that there''s no chance my fiancee will run into it by mistake!) Do you think it''s OK to store it this way for that amount of time? It is ivory in color, and pretty delicate (the overlay is lace, with beads that get caught up on each other fairly easily). I''m not so much worried about the beads (we were very careful putting it back into the garment back) but I am worried about the ivory turning colors. Or does it take way longer than that for that to happen?

Thanks guys!

Good question! I''ll be watching for replies here as well... My dress will be coming in 7 months before the wedding.

My dress is ivory satin and it''s been in a plastic zip up garment bag for 5 months and nothing has changed at all. It was kept in a closet that isn''t used much, so it''s dark and there''s no chance of fading or whatnot. Not sure how lace would react to plastic tho. I would just call David''s Bridal and see - they should know. I have read of others that put them in a cotton makeshift garment bag too, which could also work.

Well, thank you Musey! I hope whatever answers there are help you out too.

happilyeverafter, I was going to call David''s Bridal...and then I said...I bet you the women on PS come up with some pretty solid answers! BUT -- I think you''re right, I''ll give a call. Of course I''ll post whatever I find out.

I asked the same question a few months ago and got some great answers. Check out the thread:

There are also three other threads on this:

I got my dress a few months ago and my wedding is not until February. I have it in the garment bag, but open (so it breaths) in a cool and dark place. I take it out every month or so to let it breath (and try it on...hehe)

I hope that helps!!!

Thanks Mandarine!

You know, I had done a search on the topic before posting and didn''t find/see those threads. Guess I didn''t look that hard.

I called David''s Bridal -- they said it''s probably going to be OK because the wedding isn''t that far away. She also mentioned, as a way to show me that it would probably be OK, that the dresses are stored in those very same bags at their store (a poster pointed this out as well, in one of the threads you included). She said I can also purchase their $10 garment bag, which will ensure everything will be kept out.

What I can conclude from this is that it will probably be OK as is in the plastic, but for my own peace of mind I''ll ask my sister to let it air out here and there.

I wish I could keep trying mine on, like you are! But the dress is so delicate that I''ve decided I''m not going to until it''s time to do the alterations a couple of months before the wedding.

Do you have your shoes yet?

Sounds like it should be fine!!

I don''t have shoes yet, but I do finally have a veil!! woohooo.

Next I need to get shoes and accessories. I better hurry because the clock is ticking and all I have are like 70 something days left!!

My dress was from David''s as well. We did buy they garment bag, left it unzipped with a white, cotton sheet wrapped around the bottom/train. Looked perfect 14 months later (at my wedding).

Thanks guys for all your responses.

Mandarin, you better get moving on your shoes & accessories!
