If I buy a loose diamond online and a setting online from a separate vendor, how will I have the diamond set? Will any jeweler do this for me?

i would have the diamond set by the vendor you purchased it from. they will (should) take full responsibility for the stone in the rare case that it is damaged.
you could have it set by whomever you purchased the setting from but the diamond probably won''t be covered. if you use a jeweler that you didn''t purchase either the setting or the diamond from, expect to pay a pretty penny

oh, and the diamond will still likely not be covered.

Yes, but it likely will be at a great expense and the stone AND setting won''t be insured.

Better to have the setting sent to the diamond vendor or vice versa and have it set that way.

I agree that it is best when you can have the diamond vendor set the stone. But I did not find a setting I loved at my vendor so I had it set locally. Whoever you buy the setting from can set your stone. You just need to be sure someone has it insured while it is being set. I had no problem having mine set locally..twice, as a matter of fact!

Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. I have had numerous stones set by local jewelers when I did not purchase either stone or setting from them, and everything worked out just fine...it really did not cost all that much either.

Carats, not sure how it important it is, but you can with some work get your diamond insured prior to it being set, to help protect yourself.
