How To Plan Around Discontinued Colors/Styles

I want to get started on the STD''s, centerpieces, BM dresses, etc but some of those decisions are based on color scheme. Our wedding isn''t until May 2010 and I was wondering when would be the ideal time to select the colors. My BM''s will pick their own dress styles, but I''m selecting the color for them. I''m aware that David''s Bridal and other stores routinely discontinue colors and styles. So with one MOH trying to lose weight and another hoping to get pregnant, when do I decide which is best?

How often do stores discontinue colors?
What time frame should I advise my BM''s to order at the earliest and the latest?
Anyone else planning a spring ''10 wedding and how far along are you in the process?

The bridal store should work with you on this and if there is one they are truly interested in, they can let you know. I started looking at BM dresses to get as a reception dress, and the owner started a file. I didn''t need to order until next week, but she called about a month ago to let me know they were discontinuing the style and that if I wanted it, I needed to order that week. I am sure any shop owner could do this.

I think it would be nice to start looking sooner rather than later so that your BMs can budget for everything, if they are buying their own dresses. Plus, if it will help you with the colors, all the better!

Thank you, Katamari. That''s a good idea to call the store, each bridal shop does things differently and i just couldn''t find any info online. We''re probably going to go through David''s Bridal since half of my wedding party is in NJ and the other half is in Central NY (approx 4 hrs away). Initially we were going to make the decision on the color scheme in March, but one of the DB store managers explained that they were getting a whole new color pallette in June, so he suggested we wait until then.

I''m just so impatient... One year from this Friday!

i think you could go ahead and decide on your colors. there are so many stores that carry bridesmaid dresses now, including jcrew and ann taylor. i have my wedding just about planned and my maid of honor will not pick out her dress until the end of the summer for my november wedding, because i know that jcrew will have lots of great simple fall dresses.

I think you can decide on your color scheme now. I know that colors also rotate per season, so as for Davids Bridal that has a big turn over, I would call and see what colors will have staying power and go from there! Good luck!
