I''m looking for opinions on how to set these two Zambian Amethyst from Richard Homer. I know the first instinct would be to set them as earrings since its a matching pair but I''m thinking they are a little too big for earrings. The measure 7.8mm square. I was thinking of setting one as a pendant (maybe set it like a baseball diamond) and have the other set as a solitaire. But I''m open to suggestions.

Also I''m looking for places you would recommend for settings. I''m not looking for anything too fancy so keeping the price down would help. I prefer to spend the money on the stones rather than the setting.

thanks for any advice you can give.

How about dangly earrings? They certainly won''t be too big for that. Studs might be a little large, but leverbacks or dangles would be just gorgeous!

Amazing stones by the way!!!

Gorgeous stones...i''ve never seen a stone here cut by RH that isn''t phenomenal. What do you think about setting one in a very simple RHR, solitaire setting, and the other in an equally simple pendant setting, maybe just a simple basket with the chain attached to "mickey mouse" ears? I can see the two making a nice set without being earrings, for sure.

Hi, I think dangly earrings wil be lovely!

Not too large for dangles: I have a pair of amethysts cut by Richard (7 mm) set in a pair of level backs. I had Whiteflash set them in the Inspiration-AL setting.

I like the leverback idea! Those are beautiful stones.

I''m not really an earring wearer (studs only), so if those beauties were mine, I think I''d go with your idea with setting them like a baseball diamond in the simplest of settings (4 prong of some type) and then wear them together at different lengths like Giada de Laurentis''s layered diamond pendants (totally stealing an idea from Frekechild, but it''s sooo pretty!). My mom and I bought a pair of Richard''s quartz briolettes that were also pretty clearly intended for earrings, but did this (so they can be worn together, even though we each have one) and they''re really pretty together - and very minimalist, so nice on a budget. I love Richard''s stones so much, but I really prefer them in super simple settings so the stone can speak for itself.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I agree they are too big for studs, but they could be set as dangles. Chrono I like your Whiteflash Inspirational AL''s but they are a little pricey for me but still a possibility. El Morton I never thought of the layered pendant approach. Thats a great idea. I will also consider that one too. I could also still go with my original plan of a simple solitaire ring and a simple baseball style pendant. Now does anyone have any suggestions as to where to send these stones to have them set. I could send them to Whiteflash or possibly Winfield''s, any others that you would recommend?

Thanks

Very pretty stones. Maybe a ring and a pendant?

They are beautiful stones. How about a rich yellow gold lariat style necklace with the amethysts at the ends?

Why not your local jeweller? The non mall variety that has a benchperson in the store? They usually do a decent job and this helps build a relationship for future projects, checking prongs, resizing, etc.

I would try a local jeweler but I just dont know the reputation of any so its kinda shot in the dark. If anyone knows of any in Southern California that you would recommend, please let me know.

It is possible that you can get a stock setting for leverback earrings if they are a size that would fit a stock head. ..or maybe just the heads would have to be made. This is the most cost effective option, probably.

Thanks, the stones measure 7.8mm, do you know if that will fit a stock head? Any suggestions on places online to get stock leverbacks?

Your local jeweller can easily get stock leverbacks from Stuller and standard 8 mm baskets to put them together. Very easy job.
