random question...so I''ve noticed a ring in my jewelry box put in upside down a few times, so either I''m hallucinating (possible seeing how this waiting has caused some episodes of craziness

), or bf has been checking ring for size. My question is (since I never wear my rings): how snugly should a ring fit? Should it be pushed slightly over the knuckle? Because the ring that is in there def needs a little push over the knuckle.

janinegirly,

It is all dependent on your own hand. Some people have knuckles that are wider than the rest of their finger and they have to push the ring over it but it then fits well. My kuckles are about the same size as the rest of my finger so I didn''t have to take that into consideration. I had my ring finger sized in the summer on a hot day as I wanted to be able to wear my ring comfortablly in that weather (I live in San Diego county so it''s warm a lot more than it is cool). My ring is loose when it''s cold out but still fits well, is no where near sliding off on its own.

I would go to a jeweler and have them size you, they know best and can help you decide to go 1/4 up or down if you have a preference regarding ring fit.

My knuckles are wider than the base of my finger, so I definitely have to push it over. And even then, it still spins on the finger part! I have NO idea how FI is going to push the wedding ring on during the ceremony... it''s going to take some practice beforehand!

There should be SOME push over the knuckle. Otherwise, your ring will go flying if you fall or bump your hand! I know because it happened to me! My ring spun and spun (that bothered me) and at any provocation, would go FLYING off (think aerobics class when you're waving your hands around).

I wouldn't let it get too tight, though. Mine's still a tiny bit loose but I let my wedding band hold it in place.

Another reason I would want it to be snug is, solitaires are top-heavy and if it's too loose... the diamond will be going willy nilly all the time. I always have to adjust mine to be centered on my finger or it'll be waaaay off kilter.

Looks like one of those airline passengers who falls asleep and their head goes on the shoulder of the passenger next to them! Yep. That's what my ring does!

Janine,

I recommend getting a ring with a comfort fit and sizing bumps.
It is normal for fingers to swell and shrink
with the weather, and with exercise.

I had my class ring resized from a 7 1/4 to an 8,
and had sizing bumps put in. Now it does not spin,
nor try to fall off when I am cool, nor require
soapy water to put on when I am hot.

My fiancée''s fingers swell and shrink more than most people''s.
Her ring''s large sizing bumps can accommodate her finger
whether it is a size 8 1/2 or 10 1/2. She says it is very
comfortable.

janine! I think someone''s been sneaking your rings out!!

Your ring should fit snugly. Having to push it over your knuckle is common. Mine gets very loose when it''s cold (so loose that I can shake it off) but when I''m doing errands or when it''s hot, my ring feels too tight. You want the e-ring to be tight, but not so that you need to struggle and feel pain to get it on, because remember you might swell if it''s hot or if you get pregnant!

thanks everyone! crown jewel, i HOPE he''s been sneaking my rings out, it''s about time!

of course my bf moves slowwww so this could still be ages away. i saw it upside down once and thought maybe i did that, but when i saw it upside down again a few wks later, then i had a stronger feeling. anyway, the ring is for my right hand which is why i was asking..since no 2 fingers are exactly the same! I have v. small fingers so hope he doesn''t go too small or precisely like the ring moved, since i''d rather be safe! i''m sure he knows that, right? anyway, thanks everyone, now back to my usual anxious waiting and trying to distract myself...

Janine,

Find a ring that fits comfortable on your ring finger and put it in your box with a sticky note, that should solve the problem

janine, get your butt to a jeweler this weekend and just ask to be sized. Then go home and tell your BF that you tried on some girl''s ring at work and found out that you''re a size xx. Then wink and kiss him.

I mean, you can always be patient and let him give you the ring and have it sized...but since we''d like to expedite the process, I say just give him the size straight out.

I thought I was 5.25
turns out the jeweler wants me to wear
a 4.75!
she said you could go lower after I tried on the 5
