Hi there. Do you know any tool can tell whether a jade is real? I am going to pay several hundreds of dollars to purchased a jade or colored stone, but I do not know whether it is real. As is known to all, many fake jades are in the market. So, do you know any way to check the jade? I see someone else using flashlights to check the jade on TV, do you know what flashlight can be used for this? Thanks for your advice.

Hit it with hammer, if the hammer give up, then it is a real jade (jadeite)

Jokes aside, differentiating a natural and synthetic jade isn't really that hard. The real problem is identifying whether the jade has been treated or not. Most big labs use a high tech equipments and techniques such as microscope, uv-visible-near infrared spectroscopy, mid-range-infrared spectroscopy, and raman spectroscopy to detect treatments in jade.

That being said, don't take my words for granted. I am not an expert. Perhaps, those experts can detect some treatments using flashlight

I believe they only use flashlight to see the color's depth on the stone

This. IDing Jadeite is easy enough with the right tool, but detecting treatment is another thing. I believe that simulants are far more common than synthetic jadeite. Purchase from a reputable vendor with a return & refund policy and since you are spending a lot of money on it, why not make sure you have it checked out either by a lab or make sure it comes with a reputable lab report?
