How to wear a larger pendant?

Hi. I got a larger emerald and diamond openwork pendant a few months ago. I've attached a picture Of me wearing it, please ignore my split ends. I love it, and I got a chain like the one in the picture on the website that I bought it from to wear it on. But it doesn't work for me. I want to love wearing this pendant, because it's gorgeous. But I just feel like it doesn't work for me.

How would you recommend wearing it? I've thought maybe I should get a slightly longer black silk cord necklace and try that. Or I could mount it on a black ribbon as s choker, but I think that will be just too old fashioned.

What do you suggest?

Thanks!

It looks perfect the way you're wearing it in the picture.:appl:
I don't trust silk cords or ribbons because they get frayed and wear out. The pendant should be the primary focal point.

Thanks Madame Bijoux. Sometimes I feel like the pendant is wearing me instead of the other way around.

Hi:

Is the pendant set with a bail? If so what is the diameter b/c that makes a difference how you "hang it". Not every loop from a chain fits through the bail....but loops can be modified. Heavier heavy chains (curbs, ropes...) might be a challenge.

That said, chain design is the key. Have you thought about, outside of a fine box chain, what you might like?

cheers--Sharon

The bail would allow a much larger chain or whatever to pass though, Canuk-Gal. However, I do like lighter chains. I just worry about the pendant being secure, as it is heavier than you would expect. Maybe a wheat chain would look better?

HI:

Wheat chains are lovely...not the most flexible but lovely. (weight can kink a chain of that design...). Also if you like fine chains, you can buy one twice the length and double it through your pendant. I do this all the time. Wear it long or short.

Leather cords are an option. Bvlgari makes some nice ones..with lobster clasps. Very modern. But available outside of that brand.

ETA: Rolo chains look and wear well.

cheers--Sharon

Really lovely pendant! I have some larger pendants that I wear on a flexible gold neck collar. It thick but smooth and let's the pendant be the center focus, without looking old fashioned. It creates a nice, round line around the base of the neck rather than the V shape of a chain. This can really work better with certain pendant shapes and instantly brings a slight modernity to every style of pendant.

You could also try a more open linked chain, that goes with the airiness of the design of your pendant and makes a relationship visually between chain and pendant. Chain styles make a HUGE difference about how pendants look. Maybe if you took it to a jeweler and held it next to chain styles, that would be helpful.

Another thing that might work...I alternate between the neck collar with a long chain. It's a very different look at different lengths. I think there is something beautiful about a gorgrousbpendant on an elongating chain. The added benefit is that you get to see it too then.

I think the chain style isn't quite right for it. Maybe a ball station chain?

I would put a pendant like that on a longer chain. I think wearing it longer would make you feel less like it was "wearing you". I like ball station chains, but to me they seem more modern than your pendant. I agree, go to a jewelry store and try it with different chain styles and see what suits you and the pendant.

Oooh, I love emeralds -- congratulations on your pretty pendant!

Since cord necklaces (other than designer brands) are inexpensive, you have little to lose by auditioning, e.g., silk or leather ones (and replacing them before they become frayed/worn; I've never had one give way on me unexpectedly). If you'd like to upgrade the clasp on ready-made ones, which often come with pretty chintzy clasps, there is a vast of inexpensive-very reasonably priced cord tips and other fastenings that your local jeweler or artsy craftsperson could easily affix; you might even decide to make your own cord necklaces "from scratch." I've seen some lightly antiqued, silver- plated fittings that I think would harmonize nicely with the pendant.

I totally agree that ball station chains are more more modern than the pendant style; however, I think that might be the juxtaposition the pendant needs if the OP intends to wear it with modern V-neck shirts like in her photo. If a V-neck is modern and the pendant is more antique, I think a ball station chain might bridge that gap for everyday wearability, if that makes sense :D

Your pendant is so beautiful! A diamond by the yard chain would look great with your pendant. Your pendant would also look great if it hung east to west on a chain, and about an inch lower than it is now.

You could have a chain put together with a few emerald beads, similar to these. They keep the eye moving up and down the chain. Many wire wrap people can do this sort of thing...you just select the components. But the benefit is creating visual connection between pendant and chain.....

I wouldn't do a cord. They can't be cleaned like a metal chain can be, and I hate the idea of old bacteria making a home in my jewelry. :???: Obviously I'm a bit obsessive and clean my jewelry regularly.

I think the pendant and chain are beautiful just as they are.

I love your pendant and think it looks beautiful on you.

Maybe a slightly longer chain or even a very long chain (like a statement piece) to sit at or below the breast, to feel more edgy or modern. I also think a diamonds by the yard with a few bezel set diamonds along the chain would be amazing.

I agree with previous suggestion if trying a longer chain. Having the pendant sit closer to the bottom of your sweater's V would give a different look.

I'd LOVE to see it with a black cord, personally.
