Some of you have followed my earlier back and forth about upgrading my ering to platinum and know that I have an 18k YG wedding band. I would like to set my new ring in plat and wear the two together but I have been advised by some helpful PS''rs that I may create a rubbing issue with the two metals. I''m searching for some "thinking outside the box" ideas for how to make this work. My YG band is relatively thin, I''m guessing 2.5 or 3mm and I would like to put another YG band on the other side of my ering (I like the two toned look). Someone mentioned "spacers" but I am not sure what that is?

Do some of you jewelry experts have any thoughts?

A spacer is a thin ring that you wear between your e-ring and wedding band (if the band has stones) so they they don''t rub on eachother.

here''s a pic of a my yellow gold tiff band (very, very thin) that i wear in between my e-ring and band.

Thanks, Elle. That''s a beautiful set!

So does the spacer sometimes rub down a little but you protect your ering and wedding band? Do you have different metals on your band and ering?

Thanks Gayle.

The band and e-ring are both platinum. I use the spacer as a traveling ring so it''s pretty beat up, but the combo I showed you I don''t wear very often. If I did, I suppose it would wear down. I don''t believe it would happen for many years though.

Well, I suppose that''s the point, that the spacer would wear down as opposed to the ering or band!

Love your setting. I''m in the early stages of planning but I keep gravitating toward solitaires. Is yours called a half bezel? Do you mind sharing the stats and who made it (I''m leaning strongly toward a custom and am getting ideas).

Sure, it''s a Sholdt semi-bezel.

Gayle, if both rings are smooth on the sides, I don''t think you need to worry. My mother has worn a white gold diamond band with her platinum rings for many years and it hasn''t caused any problems. When there are problems is when there is a piece that sticks out of one or the other and they rub and wear down that area. But that happens even with two gold rings. My original set had a head on the e-ring that stuck out a tiny bit at the base of the shank, and over time, that was worn away. But I just don''t see an issue with a platinum e-ring and a plain gold band unless there is something sticking out of the platinum ring that would scratch the wedding band. Choose an e-ring setting that allows a wedding band to sit flush and you avoid the whole problem.

Thanks, Diamondseeker. That''s great to know and it makes alot of sense.

Elle, I''m loving your wedding set!
