Which earrings?

Still searching for green colored earrings. Recent foray into emeralds didn’t turn up any earring design I was crazy about so the hunt continues.

Tried to do a post earlier but was informed “post was subject to approval before posting” (possibly bc I linked directly to vendor sites?).

So reposting in the meantime minus links and swapping out one of the two choices below.

Two more contenders (photos are all from vendor sites) plus a third wild card:

1. Tiffany Jade earrings set in 18k gold. $4000.

Thinking out loud:
Pros: I like the simplicity of the design, good for every day wear.
Cons: Jade quality is just meh. Overall I like them but they are not terribly knock my socks off unique (I note I am slightly contradicting myself: can’t really do “every day wear” and “knock my socks off unique” at the same time??)

2. Antique chrysoprase earrings. 14k white gold (tested per vendor, no markings). $4000.

Thinking out loud:
Pros: the opposite of the Tiffany’s above. These ones are slightly a bit “fuddy duddy” for my usual liking but I’m drawn to them in some way prob as they are a bit more unusual and remind me of these jade earrings that got away (the same knife edge, although if I’m honest I prefer still the jade earrings below, and still sad I missed out on them!):

Cons: $4000 seems pretty steep for Chrysophrase. IMHO a lot of this vendor’s items are priced high. I’ll also need to redo the wire due to a nickel allergy.

2. Wild Card: Edwardian jade earrings. I call them the cheapies since they are only $795 compared to the others.

Pros: I like the color of the jade (the gradient in color). Vendor also the best out of the three in terms of responsiveness and helpfulness.
Cons: I suspect these will merely be my “scratch the itch” earrings.

I am sorry if I have missed a previous thread, but what hue and tone of green are you looking for and what style of earring? Have you thought about green tourmaline?

Personally, the kind of Jade in the colour and clarity that I like are beyond reach.

Of the 3 choices, I opted for the Antique Chrysoprase Earrings as I like the overall aesthetic of the earrings. However, it is unlikely I would part with 4k USD for them.

DK :))

I like the various shades of jade green or emerald green.

The quality of jade that would surpass that chrysoprase in beauty is so cost-prohibitive. So if I had the $$$, perhaps I'd splurge. But in terms of the pieces you showed, I'd go with the chryso 100%. They're gorgeous!

@Seastheday I agree with both @dk168 and @Autumn in New England that the chrysoprase pair looks best.
The jade on the Tiffany earrings looks like nephrite, not jadeite. So if you choose then please don’t pay a jadeite prices for nephrite. The most valuable nephrite is mutton fat (creamy white), not green. The Tiffany green nephrite looks rather ordinary to me. The Edwardian pair is pretty. and the jade is representative of that period.

Thanks for the helpful explanation re quality of Jade.

For Jade I actually prefer a non-trade ideal color (I lean towards non-yellow greens and to my untrained eye imperial Jade is too yellow for me; good for my wallet!). I also don’t mind unevenness of color (nature’s imperfections: the moss in snow look is neat IMHO):

For emeralds I like those with almost a blue-ish tint to the green:

Then definitely don’t buy the nephrite - the Tiffany pair is clearly yellowish.
I have both imperial jadeite and Old mine Muzo so I know what you mean. Perhaps apple jade or even blue-green jadeite will be to your liking. More photos and info here:

If your budget is a little flexible would you considered coloured stones which aren't cabs?

Im including some blue green stones

@Crimson I finally had a chance to read your Jade post and it’s super helpful, thank you!

What about this antique pair set in platinum ($6000). The jade color I like although from your jade post this color is nowhere near top color. I really love the daintiness of the piece though but wonder if the price is high for what it is. IMG_3117.webpIMG_3120.webp

Those earrings are stunning.

Ooh this pair is beautiful! Love the art deco lines and the bezels around the OECs plus those elongated antique emerald cuts!

Out of your initial two pairs, I voted for the Tiffany - I know the nephrite isn’t great quality and you’re overpaying for the brand name, but I’m a sucker for Elsa Peretti and the interesting shape of the nephrite steals my vote :)
