Hi! I’m starting a new project and am looking for a ~0.7ct diamond (open to either MRB or OEC) to be set in a platinum bezel pendant. I’m not super picky about color (L or above) or clarity (just as long as the inclusions can be mostly hidden), but I do want an ideal/excellent cut.

I’m trying to keep the stone under $1250 so I know I’m looking for something of a needle in a haystack, but I was hoping some of the posters here might have seen something I haven’t!

I appreciate any help - I’m definitely not great at evaluating diamonds on my own... Thanks I’m advance!

Unfortunately this just won't be possible within your budget unless you are open to pre-loved stones. Would you consider a lab diamond?

Ah, that’s what I was afraid of. Thought I’d take a shot posting here in case anyone had seen something. I did post in preloved as well since I’m very open to that, but I won’t buy a lab diamond.

Preloved would be possible, might just take some time...this one a touch smaller but pretty faceting...

That one is pretty but probably not as symmetrical as I would like. Buying preloved, I’ll probably stick to a MRB so it’s a bit more predictable. I don’t think I have the ability to evaluate an OEC with just my eyes.

This one has promising numbers:

James Allen also has several contenders in the J-L range but you'd need to ask them for the reports:

Wow!! Thanks so much! I’m going to reach out to James Allen for the reports. I’m also waiting to hear back from a couple of vendors who found some options. Maybe I’ll find something after all!

I passed on the Blue Nile due to the SBF, the K VVS2 is more than I want to spend, and the rep said the L SI1 would not be eye clean.

So the J SI2 is the possible contender. I got the certificate and the HCA came back at 0.5. Here are the angles

Depth: 60.6
Table: 56
Crown angle: 34
Pavilion angle: 40.6

The rep said this stone would be eye clean. I'm also waiting for pics on a L SI1 with the following stats:

Depth: 61.9
Table: 56
Crown angle: 34
Pavilion angle: 40.6

Any thoughts on which might be preferable @lovedogs and @ac117 ? The J SI2 is slightly more expensive. Thanks again :)

What are the inclusions on the J SI2? It looks good from the video, which is why I suggested it, but I would also ask the rep about transparency just to be safe.

Could you link the L SI1 you're waiting on?

I would also ask JA if they have ideal scope images for either of them.

The inclusions in the J SI2 are twinning wisp and feather. The rep confirmed that it should be eye clean but I will double check and also ask if they have ideal scope images.

I don’t have a link for the L SI1 - it was found by a vendor after an email conversation. They did send me idealscope and H&A images, which I will attach here. What do you think?

The L/SI1 looks quite promising from those images.

That looks like a really excellent option to my eye. I would likely snap that one up if I were you!

You like it more than the J SI2? Obviously I don't have all the info on that one, but the vendor did say that the L SI1 looked great in person and it's cheaper than the JA one so I'm more inclined to head in that direction.

I'm also waiting for a different vendor to bring in a L I1 H&A that would be the cheapest of all, but obviously the inclusions would be the make or break. I won't know how that one looks until next week unfortunately...

The J is obviously 2 color grades higher but since this is going into a bezel necklace I'd be inclined to go with the cheaper and very beautiful L SI1. Plus, the ideal scope provided confirms excellent light return.

Thank you so much for your help @lovedogs and @ac117 !! I just spoke to Yekutiel and it sounds like a really great stone for a great price. I’m going to get it :).

Yekutiel is THE best! Really great choice - I'm sure you'll love it!
