So, first vacation in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time.

I hear there is a Mexican Civil War brewing over the recent presidential election (Florida anyone?) with protests in tourist locales.

Then, my stepbrother calls my dad to say I shouldn''t go (I''m going with my husband & 20 month old son--another couple and their 1yr old son) because the hurricane will be there soon. (he''s a seasoned world traveler, and not at all an alarmist--rather too laid back for his own good, so of course I take notice)

I personally have **NO** problem losing my $$ and staying home. (only a grand, and really in diamonds, what does that even buy?)

I HATE flying. Scared to death. I know its safer than driving. But I drive every day and not at 30,000 feet. It just "feels" different.

Anyone know what is supposed to happen, hurricane wise between now & sunday morning? Should I call my airline?

Thanks!

Jeannine

aka...not going scuba diving this trip I guess Divergrrl.

Call your airline & the place where you are going to stay. The airline can tell you whether cancellations are in the future (probably closer to your departure time though). With the place you are staying, go the "I''m concerned about my safety" route - or - the will the place be in like shape when you arrive.

If you have a bad feeling, don''t go.

Yeah, I''d call.

As for the flying tho, I know it won''t change your feelings, but I''m more afraid of driving. Maybe it''s cuz I''m from LA and I''m always in a car, but there are many more idiots behind the control on the road than there are up at 30,000 feet. How many crashes do you hear about in the air versus how many simply on your morning commute?

Codex--

Truer words were never spoken. I KNOW you are absolutely right. But plane crashes (the commuter plane in Kentucky with 49 lives lost last week) are always so catastrophic.

My husband does a lot of travel by air & car for work, and its a wonder I don''t have gray hair yet. :-)

Yeah, I''m gonna call my airline, Alaska Air is such a nice airline to work with.
