We''re getting married in September and were really nervous about picking a honeymoon spot because of hurricane season. We settled on the Pacific coast of Mexico (Zihuatanejo) specifically because the west coast is not prone to hurricanes, which are usually more on the atlantic side.

Yeah.

Current headline: Category 4 Hurricane John threatens Mexico

Our spot is currently in the "watch" region, but obviously hurricane paths aren''t entirely predictable so who knows. I''m totally freaking out over this because we are staying at a boutique hotel on a cliffside, and I''m kinda thinking it wasn''t likely built to withstand a Cat 4 hurricane!!

I''m trying to remain calm and not get too anxious over it until it''s over and we can assess whether there''s any damage. I just don''t know what we''ll do though if there is ... I really don''t want to go honeymoon in a hurricane-damaged area (I believe it was Codex who said he and his wife did this and it was horribly depressing), but on the other hand I can''t see us going through the drama of finding a new honeymoon spot (it wasn''t easy the first go''round!) with only two and a half weeks to go till the wedding!

Someone give me a drink!

I wish you the best. There were quite a few close calls before my wedding. Eventually, I learned not to panic until it actually hit. When it did tho, that sucked, but it turned out ok. Yeah, Ft. Lauderdale and parts of the Caribbean were depressing, but that''s only the ones that were hit head on. The ones that only got a periphery splashing by the hurricane came out just fine.

Unless John hits your spot directly, I wouldn''t worry too much.

Thanks Codex! I know that the situation is out of my hands and that worrying won''t make it any better, so ... deep breath ... deep breath ....

Fingers crossed it''ll all be fine! And if not, I suppose there are worse things in the world than having your honeymoon disrupted by a hurricane -- like being the victim of a hurricane! Trying to keep it all in perspective helps too.

Just keep an eye on it and hope for the best. I remember when we got married- hurricane Hugo was coming up the coast and we were freaking out. Luckily It was all over before our wedding day and we were all set for the honeymoon. Seems like September is a nice month to get married, but you do have to plan for storms. Good luck!

I got married 9/15/01, that''s right, 4 days after the 9/11 attacks. Our honeymoon was also planned for Puerto Vallarta, but just 1 problem, no flights! It is possible to reschedule a honeymoon in 3 days, but not the most fun. Just wait it out, and see if anything happens, these storms seem to get downgraded all the time before they actually hit the land, so we''ll all just hope John gets diverted and downgraded for you!

I know this is random, but isn't that the name of the idyllic town where they meet up at the end of The Shawshank Redemption (the movie)? It sounds like it!! Hopefully no hurricanes there!!

I think it is! I just watched it on Monday and that''s what it sounds like! It looked pretty in the movie!

Ellaila,

I just saw that, as we got back from ziha last week. It is supposed to be heading for acupulco, but who knows if it will hit. I would wait it out and see if it hits, it might not get into the beach at playa la ropa, they were saying hurricanes dont hit there much, there are actually walls built under the water!

it will all work out, but dont reschedule yet!

It is the place where they meet at the end in Shawshank.

Also, the scene in the infinity pool from When A Man Loves A Woman with Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia was filmed at La Casa Que Canta (a hotel) there.

It''s absolutely beautiful there, yet still quaint enough and not too built up. You will love it!

And I am actually supposed to be going there THIS WEEKEND so I am a bit worried too. Not my honeymoon though, so if I have to reschedule it won''t be that bad. Not to Ziuhautenajo, but to another beach close by. I didn''t know there were hurricanes in the Pacific!!!!

If I go, I will let you know if there is any damage or anything. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Well if having fingers crossed by someone named Lucky Lady isn''t a good thing, then I don''t know what is!

Have a great trip if you go!

(Now I''ll have to catch Shawshank Redemption -- never seen it!)

I''m sending lots of good karma your way!

We also specifically picked the pacific coast of Mexico for our honeymoon, as we didn''t want to deal with hurricanes. Ugh- Mother Nature!

I emailed our hotel in Zihua this morning, and the owner responded that: "From an Amuleto standpoint, other than a
very shy rainy day (not even thunders) and great waves, John was a no show."

YAY!!!!

Charger, the odds are now in our (mine and yours!) favor that we will have typical beautiful weather when we''re there!! Just over two weeks till my wedding, and just over four till yours! (I didn''t realize we were so close together till I just looked at the list!) Where exactly are you guys going for the honeymoon?

Congrats! That''s why I said not to truly worry unless your site actually does get hit. I mean, those things come CLOSE to a lot of big time resorts. I saw so many brush by or just hit with the less powerful edges that I got kinda burned out with all the worrying. It was like crying wolf.

For you guys, I think you''re even safer. Hurricanes in the Pacific are relatively rare. I think you can even prolly relax. If you were on the East Coast, then I''d tell you to keep an eye out cuz those things can pop up in the next day or so. But, with your places being on the Pacific, you''ve got a much greater chance of not really seeing anything the rest of the season.

YAHOO! Great news!!

Yes, it''s coming up soooo quickly. We hit the "one-month" mark yesterday.

We''re going to the El Careyes Beach Resort on the Costa Allegre: http://www.elcareyesresort.com/ It''s about 60 miles north of Manzanillo, and 100 miles south of Puerto Vallarta. Can''t wait!!
