So over TG break I went down to Boston and buckled down to business, and we now have:

--a cake baker! (chocolate with 2 layers of raspberry and 1 of dk chocolate ganache and vanilla buttercream icing!)
--a florist
--a finalized guest list (70 who will most likely come, 10 who most likely can''t or won''t, i.e., in other countries or too frail/eldery)
--ALL our stationary (80.00 yea!)
--both the rings
--my dress and veil
--the rabbi
--quote from tent rental people
--couple of quotes from caterers

Over Christmas break we''re planning on finalizing a rental co., caterer, and FI is *supposed* to decide on ceremony musicians and who we are getting as a photographer. Then its just little details like finding someone to do something with my hair, helping my grandparents with the spring planting, etc, etc

We''re having issues picking out what music for the ceremony....FI said "Amazing Grace" was a funeral song, and that he (obviously) didn''t want any Christian music...and I''m not so crazy about a harpist....hm.

the cake, but with royal purple accents & 3 layers:

the florist and an idea of the kind of flower arrangement but with lavender roses, dendronium orchids, and gardenias:

(he doesn''t take great photos but he''s local, affordable, and pretty good ;-)

Beautiful cake idea by the way!

His ring: 6mm Palladium from eweddingbands.com

My ring: Elsa Peretti plat band with tiny diamond from signedpieces.com (pics to come)

I'll def. put up DIY stationary pics once they are done, right now I have a template and blank stationary, not so exciting.

Thanks ang! I am so so so excited about the cake. It's from jacquespastries.com, they were in People magazine as the best cake in New Hampshire !

Congratulations on all the progress! I know it must feel great :-)

Okay, so I know this group is based in Atlanta, but their website has great snippets of music of all kinds and styles, wedding appropriate that may help you in selecting music.

After Five String Quartet

Hope this helps some!

Ooooh I love that caks. The dogwood blooms are gorgeous. Where are your venues?

venues=my grandparents backyard outside of Boston :-) They have about 2 acres of land and the cows craze on the pasture outside the huge backyard in the summer, so it should be very picturesque (there aren't enough cows to stink, thankfully).

thanks amadine, I'll have a look!

Congrats on getting so much done! Feels good, doesn''t it? My brother got married in Concord MA and hired a guitar and flute duo (husband and wife team) called Alla Breve (www.allabreveduo.com) for their music. They were really good and had a good selection of both ceremony and reception music.

Aw, thanks Selkie. Honestly the issue right now is FI and I seem to have TOTALLY different ideas of what music we want. I say acapella, he says harpist, I say guitar, he says string quartet....I say Jesu Joy of Man''s Desiring, he says it has the word Jesus in it...

Yeah ;-)

well, rainbowtrout, we''re having a guitarist/violinist combo - maybe that''s a compromise worth considering for you two? i think the sound vibes well with an outdoor wedding.

and i''ve also been trying to figure out if some of those traditional wedding ceremony songs have christian roots... haven''t gotten to the bottom of that one yet.
