I don't know if it's my computer's security software or what, but every time I start to type a search into Google, it immediately starts scrolling for websites based on whatever letters I've just typed. When it does this, it slows my computer down and doesn't register all the letters, therefore giving me useless search results. I have to type in my searches at a snail's pace while it rushes to give me what it thinks I want, thus wasting time in the process.

I HATE this. How can I get it to stop doing this???

After you start typing, next to the search box you will see a linky thing with a down arrow that will say "Instant is on". Click on that and select "Off" and it will allow you to search normally where you hit enter to complete the search.

Elrohwen, you have saved me a good 3 hours of rocking and crying in the corner THANK YOU! :wavey: My husband recently updated our entire system and everything is different now.

Google just added this function recently and it was a big deal in the tech world, but I agree with you that it's kind of annoying.

Yes, it's utterly dumb. Why would I want google to search part of what I'm typing? Can't I just, yanno, push the enter key when I'm done typing, per usual? Oh boy they saved me a whole keystroke. Genius!

I kind of like the new feature, but yeah..it's not a big deal to just press 'enter' when you're finished typing, either.

My bigger gripe is that they removed the Search field at the end of the page! So if you have to do a new search, you have to scroll all the way back up to the top! :errrr: I hate that.

I run google chrome and I think it is the best thing. Instead of having to go to google to search something you just put it right in the address box and press enter and it turns up the search results. I think it is really helpful. You can type in regular addresses and use it to search all at the same time.

Glad you got that sorted out Nashville.

Personally, I'm loving google now. I started using google voice through gmail and now DH and I no longer need to pay for texting. I love the feature of getting voicemails as email. Try it out!

How does that work, Swimmer? I have gmail too.

Zoe, go to gmail, search google voice and it should automatically take you to where you can sign up. Did it ask you a few months ago (in the chat section) if you wanted to make free calls? Then you are enabled. Look in your chat list and the first thing should be "call phone" that is for free domestic calls. Anytime you are online you can use gmail as your phone for free (nice before 9pm huh?) Google voice is more than the free calls, you need to decide if you want one of two options http://www.google.com/googlevoice/about.html The video explains it better than I can. Anyway, by doing this we went down in our mins and dropped texting for a savings of over $200 a year. A friend gave me her ipod touch and I'm trying to see if I can use googlevoice to make free calls from it when I have wireless access. So, a bother to carry both a phone and ipod, but if you had internet access most of the time, it could get pretty cheap. I'm trying to figure out the intersection of bother and cost savings at this point.

Do you use google docs with your students? I love having them do shared docs or ppts in out of school time where I can view and see who is doing work.
