I just got back from a trip to Nordies with the hubby to buy his aftershave stuff (which wasn''t the one we thought it was...) and spotted these Frye Harness Boots which were not in stock, conveniently, during the bigass sale that just ended. I ended up paying full price, $180 bucks, for a pair in black.

I have NEVER spent this much on shoes, not even two pairs at once. The most I have paid was probably $100 for Asics running shoes.

I almost had a heart attack walking through the makeup dept. to get the husband back from the aftershave section. He likes to sniff them.

I guess I am cheap. I know I will wear the hell out of these, I only wear running shoes, flip flops or steel toed boots (which are demolished, all but the toe I guess) but jeez!

I think you will probably wear those into the ground...so it hurts now, but in the end, they will earn their keep!

Yea the hubby told me that too, though he wanted me to buy tan instead of a color I wear more of than anything else. Its just a "milestone". I don''t spend lots on clothes (probably looks that way to others too...) because I really just buy multiples of what I feel works. Stacy and Clinton would have their work cut out... Old Navy Perfect Fit tshirts and long sleeve tshirts, usually layered in winter, jeans, boots/running shoes. Oooh. Im so fashionable...its like a uniform. For being in a creative field, I sure as hell don''t dress like I am.

It''s comfort, strictly comfort. I don''t wear something I can''t crawl around under my desk in.

I clicked the link to look at the boots (very snazzy!) and then clicked on the link to Nordstrom''s size chart.

WTF?

A Euro size 37 is not a UK size 5. I have no idea whether either of them actually correlates to the US size given.

I''m completely at sea with US shoe sizing. Since moving here 18 months ago, I have bought perfectly fitting size 7, 7.5 and size 8 shoes. How does anyone buy mail order when sizing is this wild?

I suppose the only way is to stick with a brand name you know your size in, but that''s no fun when you see a killer pair of heels on eBay for $20 (new in box) and don''t know the brand from experience

Umm.....

I went out and bought a pair of new UGG boots for this winter because I think they are the softest most comfortable thing to wear...
And absolutely no guilt at all!!!

I mix and match... and yes I do buy those shoes on SALE for 17.99 from ALDO..

Oh I love boots! My Lucchese boots are 4 years old now and still look brand spanking new. My father has a pair that is 17 years old and is still going strong. Personally I think if you wear them often, love them then the money spent is well worth it.

HI:

Those boots will wear very well and aging only improves their appearance-you''ll get your $$$ out of them. Three years ago I bought some RL boots--their classic riding style and I cringed over the price; well any misgivings over the cost has long been forgotten as I have worn them with absolutley everything, I get tons of compliments on them, and they polish like a dream. They just don''t wear out!!

cheers--Sharon

Ame, I LOVE those boots! I am a flip flop girl in the summer, but in winter I wear boots, boots, boots! My favorite pair is a pair of cowboy boots that look great with all my jeans. But those would look great, too. I liked the white ones!

ame you will definitiely get your moneys worth out of those boots. They are very well made. Me I wear my Uggs all year round, mostly with sweats around the house. They are soooo comfortable!!!

See I don''t care for Uggs. My husband thinks they look comfy but I just can''t see myself actually wearing them. I see girls around here on 90 degree days wearing them...I cannot imagine those smell good on a 90 degree day...eep.

I think now that I have slept on it I am glad I got them. They are a bit "cowboy" to me but they look pretty timeless. The guy said if you take care of them you can wear em for 30 years. I don''t know if I want to test that timeline...

Did they suggest that you pre treat them with anything???

No. And I haven''t really tore through to read any of the papers. It''s not cooled off enough for me to really wear anything this "warm" yet. I have never been so antsy for fall.

I am going to plug around online and see if there is a site with info.

Yummmmmm, mama like!! You are going to get your money''s worth for SURE!!!!

I would take them to a shoe repair place and see what they have to say about putting on some kind of protectant. They may not need anything???

great boots! hope you get an early fall day or two so you can break them in for winter. they are classic: stylish and practical. who could ask for more?!

my most expensive pair: knee high, custom made for me by a ren faire type artisan 10 years ago for $480. wore them all over great britain and also to work.

re uggs: i like the older styles prior to the company being bought out by teva. fortunately, i have several pairs of those.... uggs and/or knockoffs of same are so very practical for winters where i live but i do remain puzzled by those that continue to wear them in the summer.

I will definitely look into some protectant. I will see about some from a store specializing in boots like this. I know there are a few around here. Maybe even the harley shop...hmm.

I bet Ill wear the hell out of them. They just look cool. I loved the brown shades but I just can''t see myself wearing them like I will black.

$400 for boots! WOW. Im cheap.

Please let us know what you find out.

Will do. I will also post a photo of them when I bust them out.

Fall can''t come soon enough for me!!!!! I hate this weather, hazy hot and humid, yuck!!!!! I will never complain about cold weather again.

trust me: i almost had a stroke when i got the tab for that! but i did wear them lots and i credit them for saving me from a nasty leg injury when i fell coming down a muddy hill in wales. think i''ll get them out this winter and get some more wear out of them.

i really love the look of your boots. there should be info online re how to care for them. my guess is that the more you wear them, the better they will look.

DH had a pair of those 10 years ago and wore them until they fell apart. They were the most perfect boots ever in his opinion. He has been looking for another pair for ages - anyone know where we could order him some more please? Tried the Nordstom website above but could only find them for women, thanks all!

Thanks Nutty!!

LOL, welcome to my world Ame!! the wonderful world of spending tons of money on shoes and boots. But it does sound like you''ll get use out of them. I have at least 4 pairs of expensive shoes in my closet that I still haven''t worn

DH is getting really mad

I saw Men''s on Boot Barn.

Also, I ended up trading them in for the "tan" ones, which are a dark cocoaey brownish tone. I like them more now than originally, and I think they will "fade" and "wear" much better than the black one.

I have really gotten excited to wear them.

I know my orthopedic surgoen will be ELATED if I wear boots. My ankles are shot!

I totally love the brown ones. I think you''ll be happy you switched them. I wear my brown boots all the time, i do need to replace my current pair

Hi Ame: I''m late to this discusssion but thought I would tell you that I own the brown ones, LOVE them, get compliments on them all the time and wear them constantly in colder (but non-snowy) weather. My husband has dubbed them my "mid-life crisis boots" because I''m 41 and owned almost the exact same pair of Fryes when I was in junior high. Reliving my youth through fine footwear... I can do worse, I suspect.
I had the shoe repair guy put taps on the front and back to prevent wear and also had the uppers sprayed with some kind of water protectant. I''ve worn them for two years now and they still look great!
Enjoy!!! And just see if the boots give you just a hint of a swagger...

I put them on tonight while wandering through the house, I think the right needs a wee bit of stretching but the left is great. I wish they sold quarter sizes...Id be all over an 8.25. The 8.5 was HUGE.

I love the brown. I was surprised that I changed my mind. I just thought about it in terms of what they might look like faded down. I need to spray them and whatnot. I might go to a shoe place and do taps or something as well.

GEtting them on and off is a trick. Damn near gave myself a shiner pulling them off.

I think you will love them! I still have a pair of Frye boots that I still wear from 1978 I think it was [yes, I am dating myself]. The older they get, the nicer they are!
Blu

i think i read that these particular frye boots should be purchased a size smaller and will ''adapt'' to your heel. but i also think it said they were supposed to slip a bit in the heel. chocolatey brown is a great color and very very versatile. envious, i''m simply envious....there is no way i can justify another pair of boots!
