I have just found out that it is a common practice amongst the bridal shops here in Johannesburg to charge you to try on a wedding dress!
You walk in and then pay a set amount (Between R50 and R150) and then the assistant tells you you can try on x number of wedding dresses!

The amount these dresses cost is unreal, thousands and thousands of Rands and you still have to pay for the priviledge of trying them on??? I can''t understand the logic, are there hoardes of women who run around trying wedding dresses on without intent to either buy or marry at all?

Talk about milking the wedding cash cow for all it''s worth!

Is this a worldwide, common practice or is it just here?

Wow I have NEVER heard of that before! It''s crazy in my opinion

Just found another bridal warehouse that charges R20 per dress you try on!!!

Have you ever seen "Muriel''s Wedding"? In that movie, she probably tried on 100+ dresses. I can remember seeing several shows/movies where this happens, but can''t remember it ever being done by anyone I know.

i ran across one bridal shop in houston that on the third trip to the store to try on gowns there is a $50 charge. that''s as close as i''ve seen.

that stinks!

Thats insane. My friend from NYC said that they do that in some of the shops there.. but its certainly not common!

WHAT!?!?!?!?

Where''s the logic in that? I guess I can see if a store is getting more people coming and just trying on the dresses but not purchasing...but to do that all the time. Melissa''s right, that''s insane!!!!

If I were you, I wouldn''t buy my dress from places like that. Who know what else they may scam you out of.

I have never heard of this! I understand that many places probably have women who come in to try on dresses and then price shop other stores or even online. And I''m sure some women just like to go try on gowns LOL, but I certainly would not pay to try on gowns for my wedding. Absolutely not.

There is a bridal salon near me that charges $50 and that it put towards your gown if you purchase there. I did NOT go there to try on dresses!!! It''s insane, the nerve of the bridal industry. At a regular department store, if you were shopping for a pair of jeans, you can try on as many things as you like, go to another store and price shop, and even go home and order online.... so why can''t you price shop a wedding gown?!! gr.....

that said, I did go to several shops and ended up ordering online bc it saved me $500... do I feel a tiny bit bad that all those ladies helped me and I didn''t give their store business? yes, but do I feel bad I saved over 30% on my dress?? NO WAY!!!

WOW... Nope nothing like I have ever heard of... dang.. that just plain sucks...
