Alright. So, we picked out the diamond and the setting on Friday. The ring is in the process of being made. It should be ready in the next week. My BF is going to propose at or before X-Mas...

We''ve been together for 4.5 years. Love him to bits. Know he loves me. Have no doubt we will be engaged before the end of the year...and the diamond is darn near my dream diamond.

But here''s the thing...I CAN''T SLEEP!!!!

I fall asleep alright...but I keep waking up...this weekend I was out of bed by 6am. This morning? Woke up at 5am. Kind of like that Christmas morning sort of wake-up when you were a kid...BUT I KNOW HE DOESN''T EVEN HAVE THE RING YET AND HE''S PROBABLY GOING TO WAIT UNTIL X-MAS SO HE CAN DO IT AROUND MY FAMILY...

gah.

And it isn''t like I''ve been waiting for him to propose forever. We started talking about it last week...

I''m going to lose my mind.

Any advice?

First of all, Congratulations!

Secondly, get used to not sleeping

...I slept a total of 3 hours the night he proposed. I was tired but the minute I''d start thinking about it, I''d wake up. The next night, I slept maybe 5. It gets better after a bit.

Try this to help you sleep...
Imagine ironing and folding his laundry. Count mismatched socks until you nod off.
Fantasize about his snoring while you attempt to breast-feed newborn twins at 3 a.m.

Sorry, I''m only kidding. The ring is only the beginning. There is so much more to living your lives together than a lovely ring, but it does represent the start of something wonderful and precious. Anticipation is so pleasureable.....so cherish the wait.

So, congratulations in advance of your engagement. May you be truly happy in life and in love.

ROTFL!!! Too good!

I totally understand. In the last few weeks since my BF bought a stone, I haven''t been sleeping very well. It would take me hours to fall asleep and I''d wake up at least 10 times during the night. Oh, and weird dreams too. It was definitely anxiety. But not all anxiety is bad. I love my BF and I''m totally sure about him, but so much is going to be changing in the future, how can I not be a little stressed? I''m starting to sleep a little better, but somehow I know it''ll happen again when he buys the setting and I have to wait for a proposal. Hang in there, I''m sure once you get accustomed to the situation, you''ll sleep better. If nothing else, you only have a little while to wait for that proposal, and you''ll be sleeping like a baby with the ring on your finger (once you get over the early excitement, of course)...

Hehehee. LittleLysser I totally feel your pain.
Yesterday I heard from Leon M that our ring was finished. And I think my proposal is coming this weekend, my birthday is the 18th.
I couldn't sleep all night either. It was awful, I'm in the middle of finals.
I kept having weird dreams that we ended up with an Asscher in a totally different setting, instead of MY stone. (Asschers are beautiful and all, but I want MY stone and my ring.) Who knew that jewelry could cause such anxiety?
I'm going mental, I just can't wait any longer....

Scintillating...

Do you journal Lysser? Might be kinda fun to get one and write all your thoughts, feelings, etc.. down. One, it will get everything out of your mind and could help you sleep and two, it will be great to look at years from now!

Thanks for the congrats all. I am definitely excited...hence the no sleeping thing.

Scintillating - sounds like you are in exactly the same boat as I am...I think part of my problem is that I am way too instant gratification...I know it is coming and I want it now! We''ve been together for so long and we both knew we were going to get married (we own a house together, have a joint checking account and two dogs)...but now that it is actually getting close, I''m just losing it! I haven''t started dreaming about engagement rings...but I wouldn''t be surprised if I started! You''ve got to post pics of your ring! How exciting!!

Caligal - I do like the idea of journaling. Perhaps I''ll give that a try.

As for thinking of doing laundry and all that...well, I already do the laundry for both us...he takes out the trash and shovels snow...kind of our own little division of labor...so I don''t think that would work...And although kids aren''t in the picture for us, I GUARANTEE that if I''m up at 3am, you better bet your sweet bippy he will be too!

I bet you are so excited! Try some lavender oil on a Kleenex near your pillow, this might help.

First off congrats on your soon to be engagement!!!!

Second, I totally know how you are feeling... My SO bought my ring in the summer and still hasnt asked me!!! Lets just say I havent slept in months!! Best advice... take some tylonal pm or a sleeping pill for a couple of days until you are over the excited jitters (or at least until they calm down enough for you to sleep!

) You can only go so long with out sleep before you start losing you mind !!!!!

Congrats again and good luck with sleeping!!
