I cracked my sapphire today...

I''m a big lurker but felt the need to post this. I knew you would feel my pain as you love your colored stones too. I dropped my sapphire engagement ring on my bathroom floor today and took a chunk out of the side. Now it''s loose in the setting and missing a portion out of the side. One day before my 7 year anniversary too. Here is picture of it before I dropped it. (I hope this shows up).

Oh no, how awful! I am so, so sorry.

I live in fear of doing the same to mine.

How big a chunk did you take out?

There are some great cutters among the PS vendors. Richard Homer repolished mine to get rid of a couple of chips and it looked amazing afterwards.

You will probably lose a bit of weight, but a good cutter will make your stone look amazing again.

I''m so sorry this happened! I chipped an enormous chunk of the table of my engagement ring stone (though not a sapphire) just before our 10 yr anniversary. I just felt sick knowing no matter what we did it would never be the same. I have to say, it worked out wonderfullly in the end and I''m sure it will for you, too! Again - it is hard!

Thanks so much for everyone''s responses and suggestions. PandoraII the piece that chipped off was on the side. It''s like a large sliver shaved off the edge. It''s hard to explain. But it took enough off to make it loose in the setting without totally falling out. Hope that makes sense. I''ll let everyone know how this all turns out.
