Not sure if I''m allowed to post this, but I thought it was interesting. I saw this in the news this morning, and I knew it was pricescope material.
emwink.gif

So the website listed below has to do with people that broke off their wedding/engagement that are now selling their jewelry. Some even have background stories to their rings. Not sure that I would want to buy a piece of jewelry that would be so sentimental for me, but has been unlucky for others. Any thoughts?

I''ve seen this before. I think every since it went on CNN, it has been overrun by commercial sales and the spirit of the site was lost.

I had no idea this was happening! I just happen to have seen it in the news today! That''s horrible!

Actually I heard that the site has great values from everyday people

I just can''t see myself with something that came out of a bad marriage. Call me superstitious, but I would think that would be bad luck...

I haven''t bought anything from them, but I have contacted a few vendors about some items. Some of the items aren''t from bad marriages or broken engagements... I did see a few values, but not enough to get me to buy anything.. very pretty items though!

Wow, I just read all of that link and I thought of an analogy of hypothetically attempting to buy a pet with a "catalog" picture. I''m just sitting here shaking my head. Unbelievable that there is someone out there in the business to sell diamonds that remotely thinks that they all look and perform the same.

yeah I go there a few time a week to see what they have....nothing that really saves you a lot of $$$...

Although....you might want to take a look at..

And just as sad, poor unsuspecting customers who will think the same thing. Of course, then there''s the whole, will you even get anything that looks remotely like the pics they are displaying. I''m sure not every vendor/seller is that seedy, but then again, who knows?

I never posted this, but I emailed the person who used pics of my ring. I went on about how much I loved it, how it was SO me.

And asked some questions. Didn''t hear back for days, then it was like, they took all my pictures down (didn''t say why), and wanted to know which one it was again that I was interested in. Business as usual.

Ha--I would have been half tempted to write back and say that you weren''t sure and would they please post it again? Then keep changing your mind and being all out wishy washy.

And keep this up for WEEKS.

kidding.

I just can''t believe the nerve... in her response, "what''s wrong with that?" AMAZING.
Yes it is shameful that people won''t know that they have choices...that there is such a thing as fire....etc

I like it.....

I noticed that Diamonds by Lauren posted a lot of their junk on the site.

Not to be devils advocate...

1) Someone stealing your pictures sucks.
1a. But, it''s not the end of the world, it''s not like they stole your actual diamonds, right?
1b. It''s really not ok, so email people when you find your stolen pictures online, that they NEED to take them down.

2) If people are stealing your pictures, well, they are seeing your pictures.
2a. I would be more worried about all of the wedding pictures, face pictures, baby pictures people post (people are SEEING those).
2b. If you post your pictures, post them with the knowledge that they are probably going to be stolen at some point.
2c. HOW MANY LURKERS are on this site??

3) Watermark your pictures.
3a. Post your pictures but put a BIG WATERMARK on them, "(C) SWEDISH BEAN", or your screen name, whatever, and the date perhaps.
3b. Still won''t prevent your pictures being stolen on here, but at least people will be less likely to swipe them (imo).

4) Remind yourself it could be worse. Really. Tomorrow you could lose your leg, your house, a diamond.. and all of that would be MUCH worse than a loser stealing your pictures online.

I too never understood why people got up in arms about "picture theft".. I remember there was a thread that went on for pages and pages with people being upset when people on Ringenvy posted their photos and said "this ring is fabulous, etc etc". I just didn''t get the outrage. It''s bound to happen when you post on an open forum. I don''t think you should post anything online that you wouldn''t mind being read in the paper and possibly photo copied. Where do you draw the line? how many of the people on here have an entire folder of "hopes and dreams" jewelry saved to their hard drives? You think they''ve never emailed these to a friend, posted them on their facebook or in another forum. It is a bit deceving when they are used to sell a product, but what if their using the photo saying "this isn''t the exact one, but its just like this picture or similar to thise....... I really hope neither of us gets flamed, because I like the DISCUSSIONS and debates on the boards and I have noticed all to frequently the attacks that go on and I really just want to discuss.

I can''t speak for anyone else, but what upset me is the dishonest intent that went with my pics. As I said in that thread, it was somewhat flattering, but it was what that person was doing that made me mad.

Ditto. I had someone steal pictures of me in my wedding dress in order to sell theirs. If it was just someone saying "this dress is gorgeous and here is where I got the picture" would I be mad? No. But for someone to use a picture of ME on my wedding day to profit from selling THEIR dress (and not to mention it was misrepresented because my dress had quite a few non-standard alterations with it AND the fact that the dress they were selling was a size 16 which I am nowhere near and they said "here is a picture of the dress" so it implied that the bride in the picture was wearing the actual dress for sale and it wasn't) I thought was pretty dishonest and crappy. THEN I emailed them politely to ask them not to use my pictures and they got all up in arms about how rude I was to ask them not to use my pictures to sell their dress...that was pretty ridiculous.

If credit is given where credit is due and people are not using pictures to misrepresent an item they are selling, THEN I don't have a problem with it and I would think most of us would feel the same way...

I was extremely upset that someone was trying to sell a ring with pictures of MY ring. I was angry because the seller was being dishonest and I did not want to be associated with that. I admit that I may have overreacted a bit but at least the owners of the website were made aware of the situation…..
Now, if someone had posted a picture of my ring because they just wanted to admire it or what not I would not have had a problem with that…

I do think it''s wrong to try to "pass it off as though it''s theirs" .. not THAT''s dirty. That being said, how would you have felt if she said "Here''s a photo i found on the net of someone wearing this model of dress"...Would you have been angry? I am not trying to antaganize, just curious.

I thought they used to post on here? No? I thought I recalled someone recently posting photos of a colored diamond from them. I am not that familiar with that company. Are they on the no no list?

I would wish that they had given credit where credit was due, but I wouldn't be pissed like I am when someone uses my pictures for personal gain ya know? So I guess to answer your question, no, I wouldn't be angry, I would be mostly flattered with a touch of "I wish they linked to where they got the picture".

Don't worry I don't take your posts as antagonistic, I enjoy discussing this stuff!

PP doesn''t like them, and not all of their stuff is high quality, but they are not a dishonest vendor IMO. Just one of those where you need to be a bit more educated to purchase from.
