However it could be argued that by denying claims the US Health Insurance industry has murdered countless of its paying patients innocent victims.

What Luigi did may result in public increasing pressure on lawmakers to improve the system.

Let me put it this way.... on a jury I would vote the same way as if it had been anyone else who was murdered.

The terrorism and federal charges are BS but there are rich people scared so their servants are going to make an example of the guy.

What irks me is that people are championing (!) the silver-spooned trust-fund kid over the man he shot in the back. That man came up from very humble beginnings and made a success of his life. As opposed to the spoiled brat, heir to millions, who could have and had every opportunity to make an impact some other way.
This isn’t to say that healthcare in the US is just or fair …

But it was cold blooded murder. Stalked the man like an animal and shot him from behind without ever uttering a word to him about why. I understand the frustration with health care, but just cannot understand how this was to be an answer to that problem. Raise awareness for a couple of days? Think that justifies a murder? Two lives are gone now - one dead and one rotting in prison. I have a hard time with someone that is young, bright and privileged just throwing it all away on a ‘cause’. Didn’t work - how sad!

I only hope they don't make a martyr out of him with a death penalty sentence.
However one feels about the death penalty generally, I think it would only elevate him among those who think him a hero.

If the US has any luck left, it will be a lot longer than a couple of days.

But then again, it's not as if there isn't an enormous number of people defending the current system of privatised healthcare, so what do I know.

It would be wonderful if a conversation about change would continue, but I doubt it will. Wherever big money is involved, change never comes easy.

On another note, do you think that this young man thought he would get away with this? Or did he calculate that he would eventually be caught? Or did that matter to this fellow with a cause?

Nothing about it seemed very well thought out. I'm guessing some mental delusions like schizophrenia or other. He radicalized but wasn't directly affected. Odd.

I agree - there has to be some mental piece to it that escapes most of us. The fact that it wasn’t really personal to him or his family is very puzzling!

I think he may have planned on continuing it until he got caught. There did't seem to be any connection to United Healthcare. And he still had his journal and weapon apparently. If it was "one and done" wouldn't you get rid of those things. Seems like he had some kind of psychotic break though I'm not a shrink. But to go from what I've seen on the news as his background, to cold blooded murder for a cause seems very strange.

Yes, I agree. He first became estranged from his family and then this happened. Strange indeed.
