So, DH thought I was crazy - before we bought my stone, we saw it unset under the microscope - but I didn''t really see anything other than diamond when we saw it under magnification. After he proposed, I looked at the papers of course, and I noticed that the inclusion was supposed to be on one of the corners, but closer to the center than could be covered by a prong. I didn''t remember seeing that, so it started driving me a little nuts.

So recently I''ve gotten a little neurotic trying to find my flaw. I couldn''t find it with a loupe and I thought I was a complete dork by not being able to find it (VS1 - I figured I''d need magnification, but I thought for sure 20x would do it). We stopped in to the same jeweler where the ring was purchased today and finally I just got the nerve to ask- "This may be weird, but will you find my flaw?"

It took the jeweler awhile to find it - she couldn''t find anything looking at the diamond face up. She let me see, and yupp - no flaws that I could see, either (but sheesh, is it IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of dust? They cleaned it, but the steam cleaner was down today grrrrrr). I started wandering around the store and then I heard "I found it!" I rushed over - turns out, I''ve got a little feather that''s visible from the SIDE of my stone.

It was so cool! DH thought I was a complete nut for wanting to find the inclusion, but now I know, I''m kinda pumped. I told him it was like knowing where your baby''s birthmark is. I think it''s super cool that now I can find it.

So, I''m curious - anyone else searched for their inclusions and been totally pumped to find them? I think mine is kinda neat. Do you feel the same way, too??

Hi Elmorton!

Well, I can''t believe I''m actually admitting this, but YES!!! I agree that it is like a birthmark, or fingerprint, to me, too!

There is one tiny spot in my stone that I knew was there, but for the life of me couldn''t find it! Now that I do know where it is, I can see it under 10X magnification and I know where it is, and under 40X magnification, to me it looks like a tiny little lobster. That sounds horrible, but I now know exactly where it is in my stone and would be able to tell if it was my stone or not in a heartbeat...it''s great.

So, I hate that my big ol'' honker has what is considered a "flaw," but I love knowing my stone is unique and no one around me would know any difference!

I have one that you can only see from the bottom of the stone. Couldn''t see it until it fell out of the setting last week! Sometimes it looks like there is a little dark spot when it is wet, but I think it''s more of a reflection because when it''s dry you can''t see it.

I do agree that it''s cool to know where it is. That way you always know it''s yours! Like an identifying mark... I have a mole on my hip, my stone has a little feather on the bottom.

YAYYY! I''m not completely crazy :)

Absolutely not! There are some of us who like that about our diamonds having a wee birthmark!

My stone is an SI1; I can see a feather from the side in certain lightings. I love it! Definitely its birthmark.

I feel the same way, and so does FI. There''s a feather in my stone too, but neither of us can find it without the loupe. Even with my loupe, I''ve only found it once, but FI can find it. We both feel like it''s a birthmark that makes it MY stone.

That sounds like the time we were dropping DW''s new diamond off for setting. I asked to use their loupe to find the ISEE2 number. We were able to spot the good old gold inscription, but couldn''t find the ISEE2 number.

The bench guy even used his magnifying goggles plus the loupe and couldn''t find it at all. The people at the store all thought I was nuts since they''d never even heard of ISEE2. We never did find it, but I found out on RockyTalky that it''s truly miniscule and undetectable by just about everyone.

I haven''t been able to find mine yet but when my ring is finished I plan to start looking again

I found mine! When I first got it. I am actually happy that I found it as I feel it helps me know it''s my stone. My flaw, but I love knowing that I can find it when I want to.

Yep, but my 2 are so wee I can''t even find them with the loupe. Top, sides, or bottoms up, just can''t find them. Which isn''t all bad, as it is very nice looking at a completely clear, beeeutiful diamond.

I had a 10X loupe when my stone was loose and could only find my feather if I was looking at it in full sunlight and only at the right angle. When I had it appraised the appraiser had difficulty, also. I also have some clouds that I never could find. Now I have a 30X loupe and I wish the stone was loose again so I could re-inspect...still don''t see those darn clouds, though. It''s a VS1 but I really thought I would be able to see the inclusions more easily. Makes me wonder how those folks at GIA do it!

My round has a natural on the girdle that I can just barely make out with the loupe...I think. (My eyes may be tricking me) Sometimes I think I can see it, and then it''s gone! It''s right next to a prong. When I saw it under a microscope I almost had a heart attack!

I love that there''s a little bit of the rough left there.

No kidding about not knowing how GIA does it! I kept going blind practically last night as well as half-nuts ("I found it!...Wait...no....Yeah!...No....").

DH and I once overheard a salesperson at a maul saying "that''s the diamond''s natural characteristics" when describing a stone to a customer and we both smirked and made some snarky comments to each other (being armed with our newfound PS knowledge, of course)...but it''s funny, I keep on thinking how cool it is that my diamond still has a part of its natural "rock" heritage about it. Now...if only I could start thinking about my couple of pre-PS stones that way, hee hee.
