IMG_0091.JPG I've been wearing my new diamond studs for only 2 days and my left earlobe is sore and raw. The backs are 14 carat, white gold screwbacks and the post is pretty thick. I thought I only hated screw-backs because it takes too long to thread them on and off.

Please advise of another type of back that is secure yet comfortable and won't have my earlobe throbbing.

I'm happy with the stones' performance. They are .35 and .36 VS2, G-H colour and excellent cut. Depending on the angle, I can see arrows pretty clearly.

Once I can get a decent earshot I'll post it and you can chime in about lobe coverage. I think mine are on the larger size. :(

I think I will get them reset in a bezel once I'm sure I'll keep them. I have some time to decide if I like the sparkle.

Thanks for any and all advice, thoughts, and comments.

Ouch, screwbacks are awful! Regular friction push backs should be absolutely fine for your earrings and a whole lot more comfortable than screwbacks.

Thank you, alene. I'm considering the La Pousette backs just for added security.

HI:

I hear ya. Tiffany switched mine over and have La Pousette backs. No more pain!

cheers--Sharon

Or those! They're usually recommended for larger stones, but I don't see why they wouldn't work for yours. For what it's worth, I've never had my friction backs come loose and I've worn them nearly every day 24/7 for the past five years or so.

Got screw backs for my new WF diamond studs. Initially, they killed my ears and left large holes when removed. I have the earrings for almost two months or so and my ears have pretty much adjusted, although I would not choose screw-backs again. It seems like a hassle to send the earrings back to switch to la pousette backs so I'm dealing with what I have.

I have screw backs on my platinum Tiffany studs and have no problems. Find them comfortable to wear. Only setback is the time taking them on and off.

IMG_0119.JPG Thanks to all who chimed in. I'm torn between sending/bringing them back and having the backs changed to La Pousette AND having them bezel set or just enjoy them as is. My ear isn't as bad today...

I vote for La Pousette. No need to stretch your piercings a bit with the thicker threaded post, and the LP backs go on and off significantly easier. As for the bezel, if you want a little more substance to your bling that's the way to go!

Is there a trade-up policy where you got them in case you want to go bigger in the future? Most
people tend to agree that bezel set makes them look bigger which could be a good option.

I've just about decided I hate studs because they are a pain to put on. By the time I get them
on I've had my fingers all over them and they are dirty again (and need to be taken off to clean
again). I hate them for other reasons...I have very wimpy ear lobs that dont have enough support
for studs unless I put big backs on. Love them on others though!

Lol, tyty, I know what you mean…I put mine on with a tissue over them so my fingers don't come into contact with them ha! And after I put them in I wipe them with a little rubbing alcohol.

Imitican, I can't tolerate screwbacks, they are just too painful. And they felt loose even when they were screwed as tightly as possible. I had a jeweler remove the screwback and solder a regular post on and the earrings are secure. But it sounds like you are getting used them so hopefully you won't have to worry about changing them.

When we picked up my studs, the jeweler entertained us by telling stories of one of his customers who will only put on their studs while wearing microfiber gloves, for the very reason you mentioned

BTW, if you want to give studs a try again, have you seen this product for help with droopy ear lobes? I haven't tried it personally but it looks interesting.

I find screw backs very uncomfortable. I have my studs mounted in regular friction backs and never have any trouble. After i put them on (yes I use a little jewelers cloth to keep my fingerprints off my studs) I find of flick the back to make sure they are in my ear secure.

I also use a tissue (most days) when putting in my studs! Especially if I have any sort of lotion on my hands... it just makes sense to me!

ILikeShiny - those levelears look interesting!

I think whether or not screw backs are comfortable depends on the thickness of the posts. The posts on my WF studs are much thicker than the posts on my two other (smaller) pairs of studs, which are also screw backs. I have traveled and slept in the other two pairs and my ears were just fine. I could never consider sleeping in my WF studs.
