It is beautiful!!! When are you planning the proposal? Cute pooch!

Awh... that sweetie is genuinely interested! Aw.

Your ring is lovely

. She is one lucky girl! Please fill us in on the details. How long have you been scheming?

Beautiful ring and beautiful pooch! Lucky lady!!!

ok details:

We''ve been dating since college, going on 8 yrs...we met in the dining hall- me annoying beer guzzling frat boy, her lettuce chomping sorority gal :)

In July she found work in Honolulu, Hawaii for a 6 month contract position, which gave me plenty of time to rock hunt. Spent the last 2 months annoying SAs at several fine internet jewelers and settled on the above JA 1.23 carat H color, SI1 H&A GIA EX/EX/EX HCA 0.9-1.6 (who knows with the rounding!). Needless to say I am very happy with the purchase, and I hope she will be too. It sparkles madly and I can imagine her face next week.

I''m headed out to Honolulu where we will spend a few days in Oahu (we''ve been several times before) and then to spend a week in Kauai hiking and exploring. I plan to run spur of the moment with the proposal, but I have some ideas. She loves kayaking, so I figure maybe we can paddle out to our own island during sunrise and I spring it on her.

My only thought out plan is to first surprise her with her birthday gift, a pair of small diamond earrings, as a fake out proposal, then gauge her surprise at not being proposed to and doubly surprise her with the actual proposal. Might be a little too devious, so I''ll have the ring close by in case I need to transition quickly before she clobbers me!

i think it is a great idea to just plan on doing it when the moment feels right!

just a word of warning about the fake'em out proposal. if she is really anticipating a proposal soon (as in, is tired of waiting!)then she might not see the humor in the plan until after....which isn't so bad, but nobody wants to remember being hurt/mad at their bf right before he proposed. it's quite the emotional rollercoaster, and most girls only wants highs during that ride...to throw a low in there purposely is kind of mean! unless you KNOW she would appreciate the humor of it, i would either do it at a totally different time, or IMMEDIATELY after you gave her the diamond earrings(as in, before she has the chance to say anything about it not being a ring (or think it, at least).

the LAST thing you want to do is spring the ring on her in the middle of her being upset (mad/upset, not sad/upset) about not being proposed to (ESPECIALLY if she is vocalizing her disappointment!). so if you do do the fake'em out proposal, make sure that you time it so that it is immediately following the earring gift, or a few days later after she has gotten over her disappointment. (either way it will be a huge surprise i'm sure!)

cute:
you: happy birthday honey, i got you a present
her: (opens box) wow, these are gorgeous. thank you so much *wistful sigh*
you: i'm glad you like them. i got you something else to go with them. i hope you like it just as much(pulls out box and gets down on one knee)
her: *gasp*
you: will you marry me?
her: yes!

not cute:
you: happy birthday honey, i got you a present
her: (opens box) wow, these are gorgeous. thank you so much *wistful sigh*
you: is something wrong?
her: no...i'm fine.
:::a few minutes/hours/days later::
her: how long are you going to make me wait? we've been together eight years blah blah blah
you: just be patient blah blah
her: i'm sick of being patient blah blah blah
you: well...uh... (pulls out ring box) will you marry me?
her: wtf?

good luck!

It''s beautiful! She''s going to love it! Good luck with the proposal! Please come back and share hand shots. We would love to see!

Very pretty. Good luck!

Great! Thanks for the details. Sounds like you really got a winning stone! How romantic of you to work so hard to find her a stone that talks...and from that description, it probably speaks several languages too!!!

Everything sounds perfect for the two of you. Hawaii...how perfect!! Sunset...island...oh my my my.

With one agreement with what was pointed out to you previously. That trick plan...nix it. I am surprised you are not aware...we female variety are nothing but a wound up ball of emotional string. One yank and you can get an unraveling nightmare you may spend hours or days...or even longer attempting to correct.

Tease her, trick her all you want...just not this one time. Pleeesseee!

If that earring box looks anything like a ring box...it may not be recommended to be presented that way.

I am sure your girl is the cream of the crop...the best we have to offer...but even she can be deflated if she thinks that box means someting ENTIRELY different that what she is hoping for. No time for tricks.

I agree with Door Knob S. NO tricks! You spent all this time finding such a lovely stone with just the right specs, etc. Why risking ruining this lovely moment with her feeling really disappointed and then you have to backpedal? No, just go with your initial idea of doing it in the islands when the moment feels right...and later, give her the diamond earrings too. WOW. That will be a night to remember!

Congrats and I also agree with: come back with hand shots and tell us how it all went.

All the best,

Beautiful Ring! Good luck with the proposal!!
btw, is your dog a shiba inu?

Gorgeous ring!!! And I will 100% agree with the others...do NOT disappoint her with the earring trick!!! Propose early in the visit so she can enjoy being engaged with you there!!!

Good luck, and what a romantically beautiful place to propose!!

Toshi (the dog) is a 2 yr old female shiba inu. Very stubborn. Can be very sweet. Keeps me in line :)

Maybe I''ll nix the proposal fake out. Although option/scenario number one (wistful sigh...I also got you a matching tada!) is the one I was going for...I''m sure she''d expect nothing less...one year on valentines day I really got her good with a Tiffany ring resealed in a bag of hersheys kisses...(her: I thought you were getting me a present...Me: eat the chocolate....Her: I dont want chocolate....Me: EAT THE CHOCOLATE!...Her: Oh!)

I really like this idea, but I would do them together. As in, you give her the earrings, she loves them, but may wish it was more. But before she even has time to really think about it, you pull out the big guns. THAT would totally catch her off gaurd, without letting her get upset.

lol @ the kisses!

I think your plan is very cute and the ring is awesome, great job! Best of luck!

HI:

Such a beautiful ring and a great romantic setting! It''ll be perfect, don''t worry! I love it when guys actually put alot of thought into a proposal instead of "so you wanna?" haha I''ll wish you luck but I''m sure you don''t need it! Be sure to come back and tell us how it went!
