I just have a quick question...

Yeah, I would expect the open culet would be easily visible to your eyes.

Thank you Marymm. I have this Tanzanite but I can't see the open cutlet, which made me ask. I am trying to get a good picture but it is being camera-shy.

Is it set or unset? When set, this tiny window can become far less apparent.

It is not set. Its just in the little box it arrived in. Actually, the open cutlet is one of the reasons I chose this Tanzanite.

Yesterday I took some pictures with my phone and e-mailed them to myself but they haven't shown up yet...

I don't think it's an open culet (which would mean that there is no pointy part at the bottom, it would be flat like a facet). I think it is a small window. When I resized the picture to 8 x 6 mm, it became very small but I think you can see it if you look hard.

Thank you again, Chrono.

And phooey, in the picture it looks like the Tanzanite has been cut similar to an Old European cut diamond, which would be better for my project.

You should be able to get a picture of the window if you take a picture of the stone straight on. You will be able to see it easier in person if you put something with words behind it. You will be able to read the words.

Thank you Pregcurious.

An open culet would have been perfect for the antique looking ring project I have in mind, but sadly this one does not have one, lol! I did lay it on a variety of things hoping to see the open culet but I don't recall being able to see through it.

It was actually a bit bigger than I needed but I was willing to use it. But, since it doesn't have an open culet, I have sent it back to Prima and ordered one that is closer to the size I truly need. Jenna at Prima Gems has been wonderful. And with her help, my purchase and subsequent exchange has been flawless!
