I'm sure we have a thread already, but here's a refresher! How do you hope your SO will propose? Anything you really want or really disk want? madelise shared a lot of good ideas already but I wanna hear everyone's personal ideas! Former LIW, how were your expectations different from reality?

For me...my latest idea is that he will propose on our 1000th day of officially dating (since 10/10/10) which would be 7/6/13 which I also find neat because the day/month adds up to the year. I don't have a preference for how he does it except that he's down on one knee and says nice heartfelt things! Although I totally wouldn't be upset if the ring came with a puppy!!!!! Because I can't wait to get one but don't have the time for one now yet with school and work.

Since I defiantly will be proposing if I actually feel like I'm starting to wait on him (rather than just waiting on life to work itself out), I'd love if he would propose the way I intend to :wink2:
So either at Niagara Falls (we've gone a bunch of times together) incorporating something about being an adventure couple into the cheesy words
or
coming home during Christmas time to see everything set up and him asking then.
But mostly as long as it's the two of us alone and says something us-like and semi-sweet. I fully intend to have a cheat sheet to remember the main points if I ever "man up"

Oh yeah, my dream proposal is that he blindfolds me, and takes me through the TSA line, and puts me on a plane to some warm carribean island.. :naughty:

Lots of "miracle" surprises. But this jerk doesn't seem to understand that IDC for extravagant, I just want to be engaged already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :angryfire: I told him already a bajimillinxillion times, and he still doesn't get it. PJs. Bad breath. Hair in a mess. OOH! That one song, "sweat pants, hair tied, chillin with no makeup on.. that's when she the purdiest"

Lol, did you really count the 1000 days?

Oops of course I realize all the typos now when posting from my phone. I meant "don't" not "disk" in my OP!! Oy.

And no hehe I did not count...wonderful website called timeanddate.com has a date calculator!

starry that is awesome that you plan to take action if you get tired of waiting!! Niagara Falls sounds awesome. I've been many times with family so I have quite different associations with that location unfortunately. But I can definitely picture it being so romantic!!

All I really want is for it to happen SOON! :naughty:

Hah, more seriously, something simple, sweet, heartfelt, and "us". We're not over the top people. I wouldn't be comfortable with an over the top proposal.

Christmastime is my favorite time of the year, if it were around this month, I'd be super happy with that.

I'm counting on Andrew to not let ANY OF US DOWN this Christmas, Sabrina!

I'm already engaged, but the way my fiance proposed was perfect, except I wish I didn't look like a mess. It was romantic, realistic, quiet, sweet, and most importantly, unexpected! I still can't believe he pulled it off.

Whenever I imagine SO proposing we are standing on our street across the road from our house. I have NO IDEA why! Its just a street! Boring imagination!

In reality, a heartfelt surprise, and some quiet time to enjoy the moment. I suspect he will take me to a meaningful-to-us location. I'm sure he will catch me completely off guard!

I just wasted ten minutes (at work, oops!) calculating dates! Fun. We've missed 2000, and 3000 seems wildly out of the question!

I just hope it is from the heart. All the other details are irrelevant to me!! I just got my nails done because SO is planning a date night this Saturday. We are going to Christmas in the Oaks here in City Park and it is just beautiful with all the lights up for xmas. Afterward he has reservations somewhere and won't tell me. If I had planned this I wouldn't suspect a thing, but since he has made all of the planning I got my nails done just in case!!

Here's to hoping I get a proposal, but if he doesn't I will just enjoy being spoiled. :D :D It might be a decoy night, but it will be fun and romantic no matter what!!!

Dust to all the ladies waiting for a proposal!!

Hahaha, I love the 1000th day idea! And I definitely like the idea of a puppy… he should tie the ring around the puppy’s collar and have it come and wake you up in the morning… awwww!

I want something quiet and sweet… like the ring being in the 18th hole when we play a round of golf or sitting by a bonfire camping… or wake up in the morning to flowers and him with the ring. NOTHING CRAZY.

Friends of ours got engaged at a movie theater. He actually made an iPhone commercial with a song and everything and tons of their friends were there… YouTube it… iphone movie theater proposal. It was adorable. Last time SO and I saw them, we all watched it again and when we left he was kind of hinting at finding out whether I liked it or not. Finally I just said, it was adorable but so not ‘us’… I am like, “No honey, I do not want you to spend 5 months on the proposal…" The guy spent 5 months on it!!! Sweet but please dont make me wait 5 months.

I was also teasing him one night when we were talking about where the ring is hidden. He wanted to hide it somewhere super elaborate and I told him that he should have it easily accessible in case we were just sitting around wearing our PJs and watching a movie (just like we were at that moment) and he wanted to propose… Just saying. Yes. I am evil.

OK THIS is my dream way, just replace puppy with greyhound rescue. I would evaporate on the spot!

hha, you guys all have such lovely ideas. I love that timeanddate website. Chewy and I are both 9029 days old today. Happy 9029 day birthday to us!! :appl: Can I turn my birthday into an every day event? Tomorrow is the BIG 9030! LOL!

Thinking of possible proposal ideas is actually a curse, though. I think all my awesome ideas in my head can never be matched. I really try hard to not think about it :))

SO has mentioned once, years ago, how cute it would be to propose with one of those flat faced kitties, with a ring on it's collar. Some guy did a similar proposal and posted it on Reddit, and I linked it to him right away. Yeah, some guy on the internet "stole" his idea, so he can't use it anymore, lmao.

Here's that photo ::) Enjoy.

Hehehe so did I!! And yeah that kitty is cute. He knows I want either a golden retriever though or a corgi!!! Maybe it'll happen...we shall see!!!

I think it's totally appropriate to celebrate your 9030th day...heck I make my birthday a month-long deal. I pull the birthday card all month. S does not appreciate it ;))

I feel like I should have a preference, but I don't. Nothing horribly public, no jumbotron stuff, no flash mobs, etc. But otherwise? I couldn't care less.

Honestly, I think he'll probably put more thought into it than I would.

I loved Nashville's story in "Proposal Ideas"

I woke up one morning, my now husband was still asleep. I staggered downstairs and into the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. So I'm brushing away and humming, when I glance in the mirror and notice a diamond on my left hand that I KNOW wasn't there when I fell asleep.

I ran upstairs and said "HEY!" and he woke up with a start. I was shaking and going "What's this?" He was all sleep disoriented haha and I was frantic.

He told me to come sit by the bed and said. "Good morning, darling. I love you. You are the woman I want to see next to me every morning when I wake up. Will you marry me?"

Then we had a celebratory breakfast at our favorite diner. It was low key and special.
That seems like something M would do, and honestly, I'd love it. It's cute and personal.

I don't want anything predictable/flashy (no jumbo-trons, hot-air balloon rides, etc...)
I want it to be meaningful and somewhat private. Nothing super public (like the jumbo-tron thingy). I'm a very shy person, and to be put on the spot like that in front of tons of people would embarrass the sh!t out of me. M's pretty quiet himself, so I don't see him doing anything super flashy (thank god!)

Anyway, back to the topic. I would REALLY like a Christmas proposal. I've always hated this time of year for many reasons, and getting a ring will certainly make me feel 1000 x's better about the holidays in the future.
However, 4th of July would be cool too, gotta love fireworks :D
I love the idea of an outdoor proposal with it snowing. I can picture that, and it's just lovely.

There's a bunch of different things I'd like. I guess I don't have just one concrete way I'd hope he'd propose.

Can you tell I have issues? Can't pick a ring, can't picture how I want a proposal, and I most certainly have no idea what I want for a wedding. I'm such a hot mess. :twirl: :knockout:

ETA: I would hope he'd hire someone to secretly take pictures. Well, not even hire.... just have a friend do it or something (someone with a sturdy hand, not like some of my friends  )

I'm lurking in here tonight so I read this and then hopped over to the calculator. Turns out next week my hubby and I will have been together for 5555 days! I have to find something special to do to mark the occasion. He's a numbers nerd and will totally love this! Thanks for the tip! (And commemorative 5555 ideas welcome!).

I have to admit I had lots of ideas but knew that they wouldn't happen. One was walking along the waterfront (perhaps after riding the carousel there) at night. Another was me coming home to candles, flowers and a bath. I definitely wanted something private and low-key and that was what I got. We were in our PJs at home and he had hidden the ring somewhere he knew I would look. He didn't get down on one knee or say anything - probably because I just started jumping up and down and hugging him as soon as I saw it.

I do think it's more important to be engaged than the proposal itself, and what I thought was really sweet was afterwards when SO told me about all the scenarios he considered (they mostly involved hiding the ring in various places around our apartment) - the fact that he had thought about and considered it so much was touching. However I do feel like the "story" isn't that impressive, and I have had to tell it so many times to people who ask

I only have one stipulation about the proposal: NO family members and NO friends. I don't care if we're in public; I just want us to be "alone" (if that makes sense).

I have had little fantasies about it happening when we're in our PJs at home together eating something delicious, but other than that, I don't have any specific ideas. Just hope he keeps it very low key.

I don't think I'd want any family members or friends, either. I want to be in the moment with him, and him only.

I'm a sucker for a scavenger hunt, especially a meaningful one with places in our relationship. You know: first met, first kiss (a parking lot with a creepy dude watching), blah blah blah. I'm all for friends and family helping out, but I agree - I don't want an audience when the official thing goes down.

Plus boring one knee, hands over mouth, goofy stupid smile, yay kiss stuff. I'm boring like that.

I got a beach proposal down on one knee... but I was kindof hoping for my husband to propose during an episode of Jeopardy. There is usually something engagement and/or sapphire related every 10 episodes or so, and we watch it all the time, and once he had the ring I got my hopes up each time!

Omg that would have been so cool! I don't watch it regularly to notice that there were ever any questions on topics I'd be interested in! What kind of questions have they asked before?

There will be whole birthstone categories (sapphire is always there somewhere), or questions where the answers are (answers where the questions are?) wedding related like "What are diamonds?" "What is marriage?", etc. ... Of course it was on my brain all the time then so I probably thought more of the questions had to do with engagement than there were :)
