Has anyone heard the new country song titled "I loved her first." It''s by Heartland.

I heard it this morning on my way to work and by the title thought it was a song about a guy saying I loved her first. Now your with her etc...

But as the music played I fell for this song! I am and always will be a BIG daddy''s girl, and this song touched my heart. So much of it I can relate to my life, and my relationship with my ff. For instance as a child I had a "freckle face" (still do, ff LOVES them) and my Dad has know from the begining of J and my relationship that he was the one. By the end of the song I had tears in my eyes! I''m going to be an emotional wreck (happy tears) at our wedding.

This is def a top pick for the father daughter dance at my future wedding!!

Here are the lyrics...enjoy!

Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there’s nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
and she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
and I’m not gonna stand in your way
Chorus:
But I Loved her first and I held her first
and a place in my heart I’ll always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
and I prayed that she''d find you someday
but it still hard to give her away
I loved her first
How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
and tucked into bed all those nights
and I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time
Chorus:
But I Loved her first and I held her first
and a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
and I prayed that she''d find you someday
but it still hard to give her away
I loved her first
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I’m going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first…

oh gosh.. I can''t even READ those lyrics without crying.. I''m not a country fan.. but awww..

Awe! *tear* I think I would totally cry.

What beautiful lyrics. I am a country fan, but haven''t yet heard this song. I will have to tune my station at work to the country one and try to hear it! It reminds me of "Butterfly Kisses," the song that was soooo popular when my friends were getting married a few years ago before I moved to Chicago! I swore I wouldn''t have that song at my wedding because it was so played out...instead my father and I danced to "My Girl," by Smokey Robinson and it was great. It really doesn''t matter WHAT you dance to as father and daughter...it is your special moment of saying "I will always be YOUR girl, no matter what." I remember telling my dad before we walked down the aisle together, that I would always be his little girl...but the dance together totally gave me a chance to say again that I would always remember that he''d always tried to keep me happy, and that during the happiest day of my life, I was happy knowing he was there for me and was giving us his blessing towards our future happiness as a couple. Thank you for posting those lyrics--they were SO touching.

I did some investigating. You can listen to about half the song on a clip on this page http://www.loftoncreekrecords.com/heartland_bio1.html, and the band has a Myspace page that plays the whole song to listen to if you are interested.

It''s really beautiful. I just might use it for my dance with my daddy next summer.

I can''t even get to the chorus

Holy cow! That song sure turned the waterworks on for me

I have never heard that before, but it is beautiful. If I weren''t already married, I''d definitely use that one for my f/d dance.

Had to take a ''vaclempt'' moment while reading that!!

I know most of you aren''t country music fans, but country seems to be about the only genre that has sweet lyrics anymore. All the other popular genres else seems to revolve around sex or other non-romantic themes.

I''m so glad that all of you enjoyed the lyrics to this song...even if it did make you a lil teary eyed!

I am a country fan, so naturally I love this song.

Codex - you seem to be pretty accurate. Songs along with movies aren''t like they use to be!

What a precious song! Gave me goosebumps. And tears. I wonder if my dad''s heard this one. He usually calls me when he hears a "sappy daddy song." A favorite of his is Kenny Chesney''s about the daughter who he was reluctant to have, then she stole his heart, and grew up and moved to the opposite coast, like I did. Such a sweet song, as is this one! And to tie the prayer of a father that she one day find the love of her life to take care of her and love her and support her, awww... so sweet.

Excellent pick!

OMG>>>> I LOVE THAT SONG!! I am defnitely a daddy''s girl..

At the wedding... I danced with my girls to "In my Daughter''s eyes"

In my daughter''s eyes, I am a hero.
I am strong an'' wise,
And I know no fear.
But the truth is plain to see:
She was sent to rescue me,
I see who I wanna be, in my daughter''s eyes.
In my daughter''s eyes, everyone is equal,
Darkness turns to light,
And the world is at peace.
This miracle God gave to me,
Gives me strength when I am weak.
I find reason to believe, in my daughter''s eyes.
An'' when she wraps her hand around my finger,
Oh, it puts a smile in my heart.
Everything becomes a little clearer.
I realise what life is all about.
It''s hangin'' on when your heart has had enough;
It''s givin'' more when you feel like givin'' up.
I''ve seen the light: it''s in my daughter''s eyes.
In my daughter''s eyes, I can see the future.
A reflection of who I am,
An'' what will be.
An'' though she''ll grow an'', some day, leave:
Maybe raise a family,
When I''m gone, I hope you''ll see,
How happy she made me,
For I''ll be there, in my daughter''s eyes.

Mine: Oh, I really like that song as well. There is another Mother song that always tears me up towards the end..

She''s never pulled anyone from a burning building
She''s never rocked Central Park to a half a million fans, screaming out her name
She''s never hit a shot to win the game
She''s never left her footprints on the moon
She''s never made a solo hot air balloon ride, around the world,
No, she''s just your everyday average girl (but)
She''s somebody''s hero
A hero to her baby with a skinned up knee
A little kiss is all she needs
The keeper of the cheerios
The voice that brings Snow White to life
Bedtime stories every night
And that smile lets her know
She''s somebody''s hero
She didn''t get a check every week like a nine-to fiver
But she''s been a waiter, and a cook and a taxi driver
For twenty years, there at home, until the day her girl was grown
Giving all her love to her was her life''s ambition
But now her baby''s movin'' on, and she''ll soon be missin'' her
But not today, those are tears of joy runnin'' down her face
She''s somebody''s hero
A hero to her daughter in her wedding dress
She gave her wings to leave the nest
It hurts to let her baby go down the aisle she walks right by
Looks back into her mother''s eyes
And that smile lets her know
She''s somebody''s hero
Thirty years have flown right past
Her daughters'' starin'' at all the photographs
Of her mother, and she wishes she could be like that
Oh, but she already is
She''s somebody''s hero
A hero to her mother in a rockin'' chair
She runs a brush through her silver hair
The envy of the nursing home
She drops by every afternoon
Feeds her mama with a spoon
And that smile lets her know
Her mother''s smile lets her know
She''s somebody''s hero

**The bold face gets me almost every time I hear it!!

Aw, I just read through this thread again...listened to the half of the "I loved her First" song and melted profusely.

I loved it! Roseangel, I hope you and your daddy know how to waltz together...you realize that is a waltz, right? Hee hee!

The song that kills me, really, really, kills me is "Wide Open Spaces" by Dixie Chicks, still. Every time I hear the part about the mom and dad checking the oil and making sure she''d be ok before she took off for greater things it reminds me of my life and how my parents always made sure I had what I needed to get where I was trying to go. Waaahhh! LoL.

OK, I''m done! LOL!

No, my father and I don''t know how to waltz! hehe..when the time comes I plan on taking dancing lessons with my FF and my Dad. I''m a dancer myself, so I should be able to catch on quick. As for the two men in my life...hm that will be an intresting one!!

Oh I forgot about the Wide Open Spaces song. Ever since the whole Bush bashing none of the country radio stations play them anymore. That TOTALLY killed their careers! It was still a good song!

Title: There Goes My Life
Artist: Kenny Chesney
Album: When The Sun Goes Down

All he could think about was I''m too young for this.
Got my whole life ahead.
Hell I''m just a kid myself.
How''m I gonna raise one.

All he could see were his dreams goin'' up in smoke.
So much for ditchin'' this town and hangin'' out on the coast.
Oh well, those plans are long gone.

[Chorus:]
And he said,
There goes my life.
There goes my future, my everything.
Might as well kiss it all good-bye.
There goes my life.......

A couple years of up all night and a few thousand diapers later.
That mistake he thought he made covers up the refrigerator.
Oh yeah..........he loves that little girl.

Momma''s waiting to tuck her in,
As she fumbles up those stairs.
She smiles back at him dragging that teddy bear.
Sleep tight, blue eyes and bouncin'' curls.

[Chorus:]
He smiles.....
There goes my life.
There goes my future, my everything.
I love you, daddy good-night.
There goes my life.

She had that Honda loaded down.
With Abercrombie clothes and 15 pairs of shoes and his American Express.
He checked the oil and slammed the hood, said your good to go.
She hugged them both and headed off to the West Coast.

[Chorus:]
And he cried,
There goes my life.
There goes my future, my everything.
I love you.
Baby good-bye.

There goes my life.
There goes my life.
Baby good-bye.

here''s what my dad and i are going to dance to....we are both HUGE musical fans (you have to picture separate parts for the man and woman):

Andrew Lloyd Webber
from _Aspects of Love_
I want to be the first man you remember
I want to be the last man you forget
I want to be the one you''ll always turn to
I want to be the one you won''t regret
May I be the first to say you look delightful?
May I be the first to dance you ''round the floor?
The very first to see your face by moonlight?
The very first to walk you to your door?
Well young man, I''d be delighted
There is nothing I would rather do
What could be a sweeter memory
Than sharing my first dance with you?
I want to be the first man you remember
-The very first to sweep me off my feet
I want to be the one you''ll always turn to
-The first to make my young heart miss a beat
Seems the stars are far below us
The moon has never felt this close before
(Or the sun to beam forever)?
And may it lead to many more
I want to be the first man you remember
-The very first to sweep me off my feet
I want to be the one you''ll always turn to
The first to make your young heart miss a beat
-The very first
