My fiance and I met at hobart college. we are having our reception at belhurst castle which is right near the school and on seneca lake. my question is, i''m having an issue coming up with a theme. Everyone keeps asking me waht my theme is, but i''m not sure. This is what I do know. The date is 10/10/08. Even though its in the Fall, I don''t want to get carried away with having leaves on all of my stationary. My BM are wearing wine, the men navy, i''m pretty sure I want pink flowers. What would the theme be if we''re returning to where we first met, where our journey first began? how do i word that? and what kind of stationary should i look for/favors?

I don''t think you need to have a theme at all. I mean you are getting married in a freaking castle!! The colors sound beautiful, I think when people ask you what your theme is you can just tell them the setting of the wedding and the colors and it will give them a pretty good idea of what you are thinking. "Theme"... I hate when people ask that, it''s not like it''s a Halloween party and they need to figure out their costume!!

As for invitations, I saw these ones with a gate that I love and I think they would be lovely for a castle wedding...it''s a flash site though so I can''t post the exact address but if you go to http://www.chereeberry.com/ and click on Wedding, then The Wedding Collection, then Charming Gates you can see them. I''m definitely not buying those exact invites (so $$$!!!) but I may "borrow" the gates idea.

I agree that there''s no need for a theme. I''ve actually never been to a wedding with a theme. Just tell people "The theme of my wedding is this: me and FI get married."

I agree with the other ladies... no theme required! Our theme is "wedding".

We did pick a motif, which we have used in all of our stationery and such, but it is something that is personal to us and it''s been used rather subtly.

oh good. i''m glad to hear i don''t need a theme. i was getting irritated w/ people asking me like I was doing something wrong. i''m going to check out the invites. thanks guys!

Here''s another invitations idea. Since it''s an autumn wedding, check out the handmade paper invites with the leaves embossed on them at invitesite.com We are buying from them and have samples and they are really luscious. They will send you one full invitation to see how it''s put together and then as many paper samples as you like.

Here''s another option. And they give great customer service by the way! The girls there are so nice.

This one is scrumptious! Love that red, which would then match your BM dresses? But then, it''s not as though your invitations have to marry your BM dresses. People won''t be carrying them around at the wedding!

Ooohhh, I really like the first invitation that Indy posted! I agree with the others -- you don''t need a theme. Some weddings with themes end up looking like the couple tried TOO hard. Does that make sense? I''d focus on the colors you want and not worry about a theme.

I''ve never heard of a theme being expected--and personally they can really border on cheesy if one is not careful.

that said, i kinda had one--my dress had tiny swiss dots all over it and i picked up on that pattern and used in in my invitations, on the favors and some other subtle details. I am not even sure ppl noticed it.
It was also canada day when i got married so out table names were special canadian places/things we found signficant...my MC re-wrote the words to out anthem as a lyrical tribute to us, we had great canadian music and canadian spirits (select beer & a signiture cocktail) and canadian goodies

Maybe that will help a litte to get you thinking beyond an obvious theme
