Hi Guys,

looking for a circa 3 carat solitaire for her 40th!
She has a 3 stone H+A engagement ring already ....F coloured stones

found a J coloured stone on Brian Gavin

Im concerned regarding its colour compared to the other ring she has and if it will show too much colour in comparison.

Alternatively Ive looked at these from white flash which are closer to the F's but are more expensive...

Any thoughts on the above stones? Opinions re colours? Also they seem expensive compared to other 3 carat stones....?

Thanks in advance,

Well, they are all nice stones because they are Super Ideals. No problems there.

I personally would not go from F colored stones down to J. "I" colored stones seem to be the last color before you start reaching
an easily viewable tint. I think you would be better off sticking with an H, or maybe an I. If you were starting from scratch and she
was not used to Fs then it wouldn't be such a big difference.

Thank you, that was my thought also.....

What is your opinion on this one I colour but 10K cheaper?!!!!!

What do you think of this one which is negligibly smaller but another $10K cheaper than the I VS2 you just posted?

says eye clean enquire? Does that mean its not or something needs to be hidden when mounted usually?

Is there a big difference in light performance if you go to the next grade of cut ie.

thanks

Can you call them to ask? Looking at the report, I don't see anything major on the table, so it's possible the inclusions could be hidden under a prong.

While I love most Expert Selection stones, this one has a ring of leakage under the table. I'd stick with one of the ACAs in this case.

I can’t remember who…but someone here on Pricescope bought that Expert Selection H. She ended up returning it because she wasn‘t happy with the performance. There’s a thread with pics and all. Took a couple days but it started to bug her and she missed her other diamond. Perhaps someone can track down who that was???

ETA: I found it! @TweetyBird23. She has a thread on it

I think that would be a beautiful diamond. You will see some color difference between it and F color but they won’t be worn on the same hand. Ask WF to take some pics for you!

Would the average Joe really notice a big difference between a super ideal cut and a normal GIA stone XXX from a performance point of view? Super ideals sell at a big premium

The superideals suggested earlier are going to be far safer and better options if budget allows. BlueNile is a reputable vendor still but not really comparing apples to apples here. Please don't buy any diamonds online that doesn't have pictures or videos - very risky move especially when spending $$$ on a big diamond!

There are diamonds that look decent on paper but still can look terrible!

If you have some time read through this thread.

Eh, it depends on the normal GIA XXX stone. I have a slightly different view from others on this forum. There’s a reason people go with super ideals - they don’t want the hassle of having to pick out a stone, they want the ease of upgrade, they really are incredibly discerning individuals. But a lot of people I know in real life - including me - would be just fine with a XXX as long as it has generally complementary angles, isn’t too deep or shallow, doesn’t have a gargantuan table, etc. I personally like and even prefer 60-60s for MRBs, as long as the angles are good. Whether the premium is worthwhile is something only you and your SO can decide.

That specific BN stone I would stay away from because I don’t think it’s wise to buy ANY stone without pics and videos.

The WF I stones that were posted up thread - especially the I VS - you can ask WF to make a comparison video for you of that and an H and an F for you to get an idea of colour and figure out your colour sweet spot. If the I is fine, I would go for that (I personally don’t mind I, I can’t see tint in an I).

Some more options:

3.08 F VS1, but priced quite low (probably because of the strong fluoro) - gets an 1.2 on the HCA. Perhaps put on hold and request for the cert, if it looks appealing?

This 3.04 H VS2 got an HCA of 1 with all excellents. I posted the JA link here because that’s the one with video, but it was also available on WF virtual stones (not in house vetted inventory) and B2C where I got the cert. it has an inclusion right on the table, you’ll have to see how visible that will be to the naked eye, for one. Report is here:

And finally there’s this 3.31 H VS2 Med fluoro from JA. Also got an ex HCA, 1.2 I think, and the black dot on the table looks like dirt instead of an inclusion because of the way it moves in the video but I could be wrong. Posting it here if helpful.

If you do go down to I, then one of the WF ACAs or ES/PS is probably best. If you want to stick to H and better, maybe it’s worth inspecting these stones!
