I''m getting married in July, and would like to have some jewelry made for my something blue. My wedding colors are an aqua/turquoise blue and an apple green so it will also be a nice way to tie in the aqua color to my attire. I was thinking swiss topaz might be my best option (I wish I could afford a paraiba). I can''t decide what I want. I was thinking either earrings and a pendant or maybe a RHR. I''ve been browsing the internet to find something that I like, but I haven''t seen too much. So my questions for all of you are- is there another gemstone I should consider? Can you recommend sites to find nice swiss topaz jewelry? Should I consider going custom? If so, what vendor should I use? Thanks!

Hi Sap,

You might want to consider zircon or a nice aquamarine. You could probably even find a nice sapphire for a reasonable price. One other option would be indicolite tourmaline. From a wearability standpoint, sapphire is the way to go.

I am mainly a gem junkie so I will leave the replies on a setting to the others on the forum. Good luck!

Tiffany blue/aqua was the color I used for my wedding, and I really wanted a gemstone "reminder" of the color - I got a blue topaz mostly because it's pretty darned affordable - with more funds, I would have gone with a blue zircon. I actually like the darker london blue a little better, but that's all a personal pref thing.

What kind of "look" are you going for and what's your budget? Here are a few different ways I would play depending on situation:

1) If $ is not a huge concern and you're looking for an heirloom piece to be designed specifically for you, buy the stone seperately. I'm in love with everything that Wink does with Richard Homer gems - my husband knows that a Richard Homer blue zircon is at the very, very top of my colored stone wishlist. I love the diamond halo on the pink tourmaline that's in the gallery of this section. It's absolutely yummy - for a wedding, a concave stone blue zircon with a diamond halo would be stunning. I'm also pretty impressed by the Jeff White stones that have been appearing here - he's a master cutter. A step-cut topaz, sapphire, or blue zircon might also be a very classy, pretty option. Also contact whiteflash.

2) On a budget, you can still also set and find a beautiful stone. Art Cut Gems (www.artcutgems.com - Rick is great to work with) has a gorgeous swiss blue concave cut topaz (it's set in a ring, but you can ask if it can be taken out), and you can pick out a stock setting and have it set more simply.

3) Still on a budget but pre-set- Blue Nile has some blue topaz, some people have used QVC, and honestly - I've seen some really pretty blue topaz pieces in the maul before. Since Blue Topaz is a treated stone, it's really widely available. Also try the other PS vendors - James Allen, Angara, etc - I believe they also have some pretty blue topaz pieces.

I vote blue zircon.

I love blue topaz though too...All of the blue topaz.
