Hi everyone! Writing this on a 16 hour flight with nothing else to do.

Coming up to a year ago, I had a major spinal fusion surgery to correct my scoliosis, fusing 14 vertebrae. It has been a real journey through recovery and some days, I still have that lingering bit of regret because of all the struggle, pain, and coming to terms accepting some limitations that I will always have now. The doctor did give me the option, but warned that with the continued progression the last 10 years, it would be likely that I’d need the surgery at 60, when they would then advise not to given how invasive it is. Some of you recently saw my post on my e-ring and soon after proposal, and I also am immensely grateful that after dating for 10 months, my fiancée (as of 9/1!!) had to be my 24/7 caregiver when I cried in pain all night or needed him to help with every little movement from drinking to going to the bathroom for
months! At Tiffany’s he saw me eyeing the woven key necklace as a post-surgery present to myself and surprised me with it, since I was hesitant to buy it for myself.

So now, I’m looking for my post-surgery gift to myself to celebrate 1 year of mental and physical strength and my life to come without scoliosis ! I recently caught the jewelry bug. The necklace and e-ring, all within the last 2.5 months, are my first and only “real” jewelry. I usually opt for experiences over materialistic goods, but now I want something tangible that I can always look at and think what an accomplishment I’ve achieved and how I persevered.

I’d love to round out my collection with diamond earrings, that:
- take up more real estate than studs would at the same budget
- can be versatile for work and special occasions
- timeless with a little design
- budget: $5K?

Here are some ideas that caught my eye and curious to see if anyone has suggestions on what they’ve seen!

While I’m showing Tiffany earrings, I’m indifferent to the brand and prefer quality and craftsmanship more. Would appreciate any recommended jewelers!

Hoops are always a good choice!

You can also get earring jackets, which are halos that you would put your stud through the center of, so you can have the more casual look of just a diamond stud OR the more blingy look of a halo earring.

This is not an instead-of studs buuuuuut imo they're more versatile than something else and it might be worth it.

I like the idea of hoops too, because they go with anything, but if you are wanting something that does not hang off the ear, there are so many options.

Congrats on getting through scoliosis surgery! We just had a family friend do that fusion surgery, and I saw her before and after x-rays and simply could not believe it. The pain you went through must have been no joke. You have serious mental fortitude! I love the idea of jewelry to mark this accomplishment for you. It is so special to have a tangible reminder of what you have accomplished.

Love the ideas already presented. Here’s a couple more!

A teensy bit over budget at $5,700, but worth a look in case you love them. Sweet Alhambra earstuds in white gold, pave.

Whiteflash huggies. Classic and available in a number of different carat weights to suit various budgets. @diamondseeker2006 did a great comparison post about various carat weights once upon a time if you search.

HI:

The Tiffany Victoria earrings are wonderful. I love mine.
Kwait have gorgeous earring selections. I have NO idea why I sold my star drop earrings.
Roberto Coin diamond hoops are awesome.

Happy shopping.

cheers--Sharon

I was going to suggest the same thing. Studs and jackets. gives you versatility for a lower keyed day and a blingier day. You could do WF ACA's .80ctw for around $2k or 1 ctw for about $3k and still have funds for jackets.

Yes, my top 1 and 2 choices.

I did this for years. I had studs that were .6 each ear and jackets. They were SO versatile. The studs were perfect for daily wear and the jackets made them look enormous and dressed them up. This is a great option.

I like the marquise design and the cluster design you posted. I'd have Maytal Hannah make them in platinum....high quality for less cost in these designs that really aren't original or unique to the jewelry houses that sell them. I'd just recommend trying some of these styles on to get an idea of the size you want.

I am sure she can also make the cluster style if you show her the picture.

Agree with this! She made me the medium size and they are gorgeous with a much, much more reasonable price.

I vote for hoops too, and they don't need to be very big in diameter like the size of a small bangle!

Mine are D-shaped tiny huggies about 0.37cttw literally just hug my earlobes.

I am planning to get another pair with bigger size stones in Moissy first to see if I like them before opting for either LGD or earth-mined stones.

DK :))

Look at pave flower studs if you like the Victoria look. You may be able to do the Maytal pair and a vintage pair of pave flowers.

Example:

These are pretty:

These are more gold v diamond, but are not a bad size and would have a good impact.

Thank you for all the ideas!! Sorry for the late response. I was traveling to Hong Kong and Singapore and hastily wrote the post during the 16 hour flight… then once I landed, I fell into 3 days of jet lag and fatigue and then it’s been 3 weeks of whirlwind of activities.

Now that I’m back in the states, I wanted to thank everyone and show a couple ideas I’m leaning towards… following a visit to JannPaul while in Singapore! Heehee. It was just coincidence that my fiancée tagged on Singapore to visit a close friend and I was like, “well… since we’re here..!”

Note: I thought these two would provide some harmony with my current jewelry collection:
  • Tiffany woven key in rose gold
  • Van Cleef white MOP gold bracelet
  • Vatche U113 ering
Leaning towards the flower (more pointy look vs rounded) or clover, so it’ll match my necklace or bracelet!

Has anyone had experience purchasing jewelry from JannPaul, excluding erings? Thoughts on craftmanship, quality, and price? They said these are uncertified diamonds, so not sure if that would be an issue.

Price: Flower (approx. USD $1450) and Clover ($1,830). Hoop (forgot, but 0.5 tcw and < $1K)

I had the white flash flower earrings and absolutely love them!

@Nycpanda Many of your #maybes are branded. Is branding important to you?

Nothing wrong with that, if that’s the case. Just a reminder that an uncerted diamond floral piece from a small specialty jeweller is a long way off Tiffany or VCA piece so do your best to maintain a realistic and practical perspective on your personal preferences… Maybe you do value branding more than precision-cut diamond melee. Maybe not. If you buy something that doesn’t check all your boxes, whatever they might be, then you’ll probably spend more money later to buy what you originally wanted most anyway.

Great question. Branding is not at all my preference, which is why I chose to get a WF ering over Tiffany. The necklace and bracelet were both gifts. While I love the design of both, which has not been well replicated (unlike the Vatche U113), I personally would not have paid the premium for it. I prefer value, craftsmanship, and quality over brand. I had read on Pricescope, that many people loved JannPaul for their super ideal and new decagon diamond, so it was something I initially went in for. And then I saw they had some classic styled earrings that interested me. They said these diamonds were hand selected, similar to their quality standards for rings, but didn’t make sense to pay extra for cert. It was just a thought to potentially purchase from them!

Does the ACA make sense for smaller diamonds on your ear? I know it’s a bit of a biased question since you have them, but would love to hear your thoughts post purchase and after wearing them for awhile. =)2

I don’t believe they are currently using ACA melee in some of their pieces. You’d be wise to ask when/if you order the flower earrings.

Ah you are correct. I was thinking of the hoop earrings, where you can choose ACA or not. Did the diamonds come certified?

Which size did you get and how do you feel about it after wearing it?

I have small ACA studs, .61ctw. Yes, they are certified. I bought them 2 years ago, so a lot has changed in the diamond world since then! I don’t have any other Whitflash earrings at the moment, although the flower earrings and pendant have been on my mind.
