If a prong catches fibers/fuzz?

Hi all, I have 2 new settings, one is a 4 prong from James Allen and the other is a 6 prong from David Klass. I have heard that if prongs catch any clothing fibers/cotton fuzz that the prongs are loose and/or need polishing. is this always the case or is it normal to catch tiny strings of fiber?

The James Allen one in particular catches tiny fibers in it. When I look at it under a loop it looks air tight. So I ran my new David Klass ring along a cotton throw blanket and it taught some fibers as well (albeit, only like 1).

Can anyone let me know if its normal or if this is something to be concerned about? I assume that unless prongs are COMPLETELY tight to the stone in every area (seems impossible), they are bound to catch tiny microscopic fiber strings if I run my hand along a fluffy blanket?

Fabric catching will not rip prongs off.
There is usually a little latent spring in claws when they are pushed over a gem. It can not hurt to have a bench jeweler tighten them a little so as to save you ripping expensive clothing.

Thanks garry! What latent spring do you mean? Btw both my rings are tabs not claws :/ is it normal for any fibers/fuzzies to get stuck on/under them?

small fuzzies can happen with anything and are not a huge worry as long as you checked the prongs.
Garry and I have had this debate before, from here in the cooooold sweater and jacket rich land in the Midwest I have seen cloth pull heads off rings as well as pop prongs.
Either way.....
Checking your rings often, no matter what they are and how you wear them, is the best advise you can get.

Ditto @Rfisher
I find little pieces of fuzz or lint on my prongs whenever I look at them with a loupe. As long as your prongs are tight I don't think its an issue. If you feel the prongs catching on clothing then its an issue.

You can definitely see your diamond lose before it actually falls

I am constantly picking fuzz out of my prongs, so I sure hope it's normal!

The tab prongs on my Tiffany never catch any fuzzies but the claw prongs on my Canera do. I wonder if that also makes a difference ( claw versus tab)

Yeah, we Aussies only ever wear budgie smugglers.
Do not google that- Warning

wow! ok great, that is good to know that its not necessarily a big worry as long as the prongs look tight. Thanks Karl!

Ive heard claws "grab" more fuzzies!

Apparently it is. both my new rings are catchin fuzz and look tight to me!

I have read that k here, supposedly they are sort that way by design. I have had one claw set and sent it have them more rounded. They still catch but it is miles better. Prongs make me twitchy I never know if it is me being paranoid or they are actually catching. I am constantly ripping hair out if I run my ring hand through my hair to put it up or what not. I spouse it is encouraging that even high end vendors have the possibility of lint:fuzz catches

Claw prongs are nice aesthetically, and as such are quite popular. However, there is a bit of a tradeoff in that the narrowed point of the claw prong is more easily 'lifted" by things that happen during daily wear. Once lifted they will tend to be more "catchy".

This is not typically a security problem. That is, slightly lifted prongs do not make losing the stone more likely. But it can be annoying, and it may require more trips to the jeweler for maintenance.

This is something to consider when choosing your prong style.

Issue is, both rings are tab
I expected neither of them to pick up fuzz. But, they still do!
