Yes, mlopros does have lovely old cuts..and they take better photos than most.
But they also have the prices to match!

I found they were still a reasonable bargain about 9 - 12mths ago, but their prices keep creeping up,
perhaps its us old cut-mad PSers and all the business we bring, lol!

But I agree, it looks a lovely stone zhu - I just wish I knew where these sellers find all their diamonds, don''t you???

AJ, I think there is a underground organization with sniffing dogs going around digging up beautiful old cuts, and then bury them in grass so bunnies like us can do the egg hunt on the internet....

and that stone is yummy!!

aj - have you looked locally for old cuts??

I receive several melb & syd jewellery auction lists and am yet to see an old cut as stunning as the ones available in the USA

Hey heli,
Nope, have never seen an old cut local to me except in one antique jewellery store that specializes in them, and has the price tags to match [;)
I agree, they are much more prolific in the US...I guess there are historical reasons for this..?

Regardless of how trust worthy the seller for 2.75 ct is, what makes the 1.02 ct special and hence worth the "not so cheap" price is the excellent symmetry and finish and overall beautiful organization of the pattern. To my eyes the 1.02 ct is much more pleasant to the eyes.

Old cut diamonds are just like the modern RB diamonds, the cut is the most important characteristic and parameter in choosing one.

Going just by the few photos, I think the 2.75 is a transitional, not OEC (presence of large "blocky" arrows, no or maybe a very tiny culet, larger table), where as Zhu the first diamond you linked is more of what we expect to see in the patterning of an OEC.

Personally, I love them all when it comes to old cuts, but just like with any other cut the differences between an OMC, OEC or tranny will be attractive to different people.

If I had to choose a fave though, I would likely say a very nicely cut OEC - from your post above, it seems this is also what is more pleasing to your eye Zhu

If I wanted that I''d buy it now and hit her with the paypal payment by credit card before she had a chance to ask for a wire transfer. I looked at that. The "buyer" was getting the ring under 5K which is ludicrous and then getting hysterical when the seller asked for a wire transfer, probably to avoid getting hit even more with the paypal fees. I don''t blame her. I can''t stand some of these hysterical ebay drama queens. Instead of what that person did, I would have politely declined to wire and just offered to pay the Paypal fee myself. It''s still an exceptional bargain and looks really well cut to me.

TG- i was thinking more along the line of it may be a scam full stop. I am not disagreeing that its a great price and stone. But the seller has no feedback. Having just been through almost 2 months of drama to get a legit claim refunded through PP, i dont hold a huge amount of confidence in their customer protection. On the other hand, i have also just received my own great OEC deal through ebay, so I am by no means an "ebay alarmist". I.m glad that potential buyer left that feedback-even you said that accepting under 5k for this ring is "ludicrous" - perhaps too good to be true? I imagine if the potential buyer had the chance to pay through paypal they would have,no? Seems the seller is saying "wire or nothing". Perhaps i.m completely wrong though, of course.
