hey everyone!

I posted maybe once or twice, and I guess i''ll stop lurking now and officially ask to become a LIW!

a little about myself: I just graduated from undergrad and have been dating my guy for a little over a year. i really love him and all our friends talk about how they just know we will get married. even his family talks about "when you get married..." they say friends and family know better than you do sometimes (since they aren''t swayed by being "in love") and can really tell if a couple works or not. SO...i know hes the one, but the question is how long will I wait!

Have you actually sat down to talk to your man about how HE feels about marriage and when and all that? It''s nice to get reassurance that other people think you should get married, but really the only people who decide that are the two of you (duh, way to state the obvious, Gwen!), so if you haven''t talked to him about it yet, I think you should.

Welcome! I totally agree with what Gwen said. (as usual. Hi, Gwen!) Very often our families jump the gun on that kind of assumption, so it can lead to years of miscommunication and impatient waiting. (Why, no. I''ve never done that. Why do you ask?

maybe i should have been more clear. he''s currently saving up for a ring, we''ve talked about what i like, have looked at some stores and online for what i like. We''ve also discussed getting engaged this fall or at latest spring 2009 and married in the spring of 2010. so, it''s not just my idea. we are very open about it and he''s just as excited about marrying me and getting to spend forever together!

Sounds fantastic! And it sounds like you have an idea of how long you might be waiting, which is I think one of the things that's hardest on some of the ladies around here--when they have no idea if it'll be 6 months or 6 years or, well, ever. But you know! And the planning is in progress! That's excellent, congratulations.

Your story sounds a lot like mine! We''ve got a fairly similar timeline, been dating for nearly a year and expecting an engagement next year then wedding the year after. Or even late next year, if we go the destination wedding route.

My family seems to know he''s the one too-- I''m also getting a lot of the ''when you get married'' stuff. Never got that in any of my previous long-term relationships so I guess it''s obvious that he''s the one
